Mask is a very good movie. It was based on actual events with the main character Rocky Dennis. The actors and actresses that portrayed the people in the movie did an excellent job! I highly recommend this movie to buy and I'm so glad I added it to my collection of dvd movies!

I remember the movie very well. Very good movie. But I don't like this version cause it's all Bruce Springsteen music, not a fan. That's why I bought the DVD......Great movie great music. Sometimes the directors cut isn't the best. Buy what you know!!!!........Still a great movie

You already know that Eric Stolz, Cher, and Sam Elliot lead an amazing ensemble cast in bringing this "based on a true story" film to life. What not everyone knows is that this is the first film that director Peter Bogdanovich worked on following the murder of his girlfriend, Dorothy Stratten (see "Star 80"). Shortly before her death, Stratten had become nearly obsessed with learning as much about Joseph Merrick as possible. Merrick, you will recall, was the real life subject of the Broadway show and later movie "The Elephant Man." Bogdanovich theorizes that Stratten identified so strongly with Merrick because both were outsiders who were separated by others based upon their extraordinary appearances. The differences are obvious: Stratten was celebrated for her appearance, while Merrick and Rocky Dennis (the individual whose life "Mask" is based upon) were ostracized. However, Stratten's empathetic connection with Merrick inspired Bogdanovich's unbelievably sensitive vision for this film. Of course "vision" isn't nearly enough to make a good movie, but a great one can't be made without it. That said, it still took the combined best-work-of-their-lives from every single member of each of the cast and crew to reach the level of art that this film has attained. Read full review

A beautiful story about love and letting go. Cher plays a mom under extreme stress who has a son with a debilitating disease and she's a single mom trying to make do who's in love with a man in a motorcycle club who's never there. Eric Stoltz plays the Sun who has a disease that affects his face making him look too many like a monster. It's painful to his body and to his heart especially for the fact that his mother acts childish and he sometimes has to take care of her and he himself has dreams of things he wants to do before he dies but he has to come to grips with the fact that he will probably never be able to do these things. One of the most heartfelt engaging movies ever made.

This is a movie that makes the heart feel good, sad and angry. It's filled with the ups and downs of life and different views seen from the many characters. Cher, who plays the mom is brave and brazen, Gar, the boyfriend is the center of their life's and Rockie the one with the courage and strength to be like everyone else even though he was different. Rockies positive attitude shines bright beyond all the negativity that surrounds him. I can never see this movie too much.
