If your a Marvel Fan, this might qualify as a must have. It packs so much of the Marvel universe into one game it leaves you wondering how can they make a sequel? The line up of heroes is staggering and it's hard to choose which hero or heroes you want to beat the game with. The game depth isn't too deep, mostly composed of button mashing and well timed super power moves. The controls are easy for gamers of all ages, the graphics are pretty top notch and the attention to detail is surprising since most comic book games don't look this sharp or crisp. It does have a strong arcade feel, without the ability to really control the camera. The dialogue, voice acting, and plot line fall right into place with comic books. Expect extraordinary characters doing extraordinary things. While there is limited strategic gaming involved, you can setup characters to your liking by tailoring points and power ups to individual heroes. You can unlock costumes, find hidden bonus levels, and the game strays near a epic story revolving around Dr. Doom. For fast action paced console gamers and Marvel fans this is a great product with lots to offer fans and newbies alike. The cut scenes are rendered beautifully and the spirit of Marvel is really alive, the developers did a magnificent job over predecessors who have tried and failed. This is what comic book games should have been and sets a new premium standard for all those who follow suit. All in all I was really pleased with the game and it's re-playability. Of course if button mashing action heroes is not your thing, you can easily pass it up for more RPGs that have more depth and customization controls. However if you enjoy a good boss fight with Wolverine at your side, then this is a easy choice by far.Read full review
I find it very hard to give this a 5 of 5 simply because it would have to be pristine perfect in every way. If E-Bay had a decimal system it would have a 4.5 or 4.6 though. Pros: Most Heroes and Villains ever assembled in a video game....ever. Wonderful graphics. Many costumes covering all Marvels History. Really awe inspiring cut scenes. My favorite is the Asgard battle with Loki and the guards. Lots and lots of one liners from the characters you expect to have them (i.e. Deadpool, Spider-Man, Wolverine). Cons: If you want to play from your PC with a PS2/360 style control you have to use the Logitech version all others I tried were not compatible with the game, and I had to revert back to the keyboard. Let down that the PC for most cases has better graphics and capable of achieving more however a big let down that the PC didn't get any special unlockable characters like the Wii and 360 received. As of this review no content available download made available for the PC just X-360. Only 20 or so characters made playable. Overall great game an a must have for the Super Hero fan in your family on any platform.Read full review
I have really enjoyed this game. For one, the graphics are absolutely amazing. Instead of making the characters cartoony, it makes them more realistic looking during gameplay. Plus, the cutscenes really look like actual people. When you look at Spider-man, you see the outline of cheekbones and a nose under his mask. To me, that made things very realistic. The gameplay is also fun. If you are even just somewhat into super heroes, you will enjoy this game. There are so many heroes to choose from, and as you level up, you unlock your super powers. Some of the combo moves are flat out sweet! Although I don't particularly like the fact that the heroes have limits on their super powers and moves, there are usually enough orbs flying around after you destroy the enemy or surrounding boxes that it is almost like having unlimited super powers. I think it is very fun that the flying characters can fly and perform their movse in the air as well. Another bonus is that if you go online, you can download Colossus and Moon Night and put them into the game. I really liked Colossus and used him to beat the game. You can also download some saves that give you all of the characters, if you are someone like me who does not have all the time in the world to find everything and beat the game on all three modes. In addition, you pretty much have the opportunity to save at any time by use of the portal function, so if you feel it is going to be a while until you get to a save point, you can use the portal, which takes you back to your home base, save their, jump back in the portal, and continue. If you load that saved game, the portal will still be there. One thing that was probably not as good as other RPGs, like KOTOR or KOTOR II, is that there really is not much choice in where you go first. You knid of have to follow the order of the story. Also, the small side missions do not really feel like they do anything while playing (they do make a difference, as I found out after I beat the game), so that was a little disappointing. I really enjoyed the story, despite these things. The other thing I liked is that it was not terribly long. I did most things and beat it in about 20 hours. That might be a turn off to some gamers, but it worked out well for me. One thing that you can get if you download someone elses saved game is the ability to used saved game characteristics to start a new game I really like this feature because instead of having to play the game on hard with really wimpy super heroes (who seem to feel like they aren't really that super), you can bring in your strong characters from another save, no matter where they are in that save. You can only do this, though, if you have beat the game a certain way or download the ability from the www. Other than that, I really enjoyed it, and everyone I bring over to show it really has a blast. I really like that ability that you have to plug in USB controllers. Instead of having to create a LAN or go online, I can plug in my 4 USB controllers, and we can all play from my computer like a console. This is one of the few games that provides that option, which I have enjoyed as I invite people over to play. One thing to note, the graphics card requirements for this game are very high. I just upgraded to a ATI Radeon X1950 XE AGP card, as well as upped my ram. So I don't have issues. Aso, you need over 6 GB of HDD space, which seems like a lot, but most of it is for the charactersRead full review
I love the graphics, the characters powers, the combat. It is a great single user game. My DSL is a little too slow to make multi-player gaming work out, but it has the right stuff to be fantastic in that mode. I'm not an experienced gamer at this type of play, but it's fun and looks and sounds great. Using keyboard or a controller both respond quickly and make learning beginner level moves easy. I'm a lifelong Marvel Comics fan, and this game brings out the kid in me. If you are a boomer/comic book fan seeking to enter some more in-depth gaming experiences, this is a good game for you - try it, you will probably like it.
Being a big fan of Marvel comics, I was itching at the chance to play this game. I was so hungry to actually be Daredevil and Mr. Fantastic that when I finally purchased the game, I was glad that it lived up to my expectations. The graphics within the game are very good and the selection of playable characters is amazing. The vast array of other Marvel character enemies is seriously the best I have ever seen in any video game, for any system. You lock horns with everyone from Loki to Lizard to Rhino to Dr. Doom to Shocker to Blackheart to The Skrulls to Galactus to Mephisto to Ultron; the list goes on for days, no joke. Gameplay is tedious but very esy to pick up; gameplay is identical to X-Men: Rise of Apocalypse. The vast selection of super powers for each playable character is astounding and extensive. Overall, the game is almost perfect. The reason it's "almost" is because the game does tend to get a TAD repetitive after awhile. The game is without a doubt outstanding, easily one of the best games in the past couple years. 9.5/10Read full review
