the JTM1c is as good as a circuitboard 1 watt tube amp can be. Does it have exactly the same high frequency sparkle and precise feel of a 100 watt handwired vintage tube amp with KT88 poweramp tubes howling and burning through an enormous iron transformer? No of course not. Not at all. But for a 1 watt amp it gets no better. The volume is enough for small gigs and delivers much better results than a high watt amp being choked. I gig mine regularly, and mic it for bars. Its perfect as a Grab And Go amp. If its a loud room or outdoor festival I bring something else. But it is the right tool for many gigs. Its a GREAT practice amp of course if you live somewhere that doesn't allow you to practice through your 40watt amp on 8. Its easily worth the $700 or $800 they go for regularly. As they dwindle in numbers & become more and more rare I'd expect the price to rise dramatically. But frankly Marshall should just produce these en masse already. This whole series of 1 watt amps was great. The JCM version is a very accurate rendition, though not my cup of meat. The JTM has really nice vintage-ish cleans and semi-dirt tones, cranking it to 10 gets a nice thick milkshake tone, very much like the "Beano" sound. I'm very happy with it. Pretty much every other 1 watt tube amp I've come across is designed for cartoonish amounts of gain, which is fine for the sales floor and awful in practice. The JTM1 is very functional. The only complaint I have is that the low power setting is so low that i can't use it, though it is good if you need to have full amp saturation at whisper volumes. I'd rather it was somewhere halfway between. I expect the 2nd hand price on these to increase over time as they become more and more scarce. Mine's a keeper.Read full review
