Rhino Records, perhaps the leading company responsible for releasing classic reissue titles, put out this unique 4-CD box set of music by The Monkees. It was originally released back in 1991 to coiincide with the group's 25th anniversary. There are a total of 80 selections contained in this set. It also comes with a 30-page LP-sized booklet featuring photographs, liner notes and interviews with The Monkees and several of their associates; plus, a full-size color poster showing many items of Monkees memorabilia. The title, "Listen To The Band", is a very appropriate name for this collection. Spanning the years 1966 to 1987, there are a great many songs featured here. Several of them are first time releases on CD, such as the extended versions of "Salesman" and "As We Go Along"; the 1970 single "Do It In The Name Of Love"; the Peter Tork rarity "Tear The Top Right Off My Head"; and a rousing live rendition of "(I'm Not Your) Steppin' Stone", which was recorded during the group's Summer 1967 North American tour. It should be noted that this live recording made its official debut in this box set. However, the liner notes state that this was performed at the Seattle Center Coliseum in Seattle, Washington; the track was actually performed at the Memorial Coliseum in Portland, Oregon. While this box set is a perfect musical history about The Monkees, it failed to contain their 1976 Seasonal Holiday recording of "Christmas Is My Time Of Year", which would have made an excellent addition.Read full review
The booklet is very deep with info on each song and what they were going through that year. Lotz of rare songs that show how The Monkees self destructed under all the pressures with writing their own songs. The list of talent that wrote + played the best songs explains why they needed them. The song selection is varied, with some real stinkers on disc 4, but the rest makes up for it.

What an amazing set. So many of their best songs from the beginning to their revival. Best CD set I’ve ever bought. No regrets.
