I learned a lot about Elton John reading the book, and I learned about Ryan White and how his life influenced Elton to create his AIDS Foundation, plus I learned about other people who influenced him who are active in the fight to end AIDS. I learned that he is not an expert on the science of AIDS or the history of AIDS. According to what I read in his book, he learned about AIDS long after I learned about it. Renate had told me she wanted to marry him, and I told her about the virus called AIDS. I had first heard about the possibility of an acquired immune deficiency when I was taking a health course in high school; they were not teaching us about it, but one of my classmates, Jeannie Cook, suggested it as a response to the question on our test "Is there a disease you can die from that you can get by having sex?" and I was given an F by the teacher, even though I answered all the questions correctly according to what the teacher had taught us, because I answered it "No" and Jeannie had written in the margin "Unless there is a possibility of an acquired immune deficiency" and then I heard about the AIDS virus in college from some girls who had heard about it from some men, and then I met Renate and I told her about it. I guess she didn't discuss it with Elton, because he says he learned about it when everybody read about it in the newspapers. I heard about a college alumnae support group for people who were dying of AIDS, but since I didn't have it, I never joined the support group to find out who was dying. I was told in 1991 that all the lesbians I had met in college had died of AIDS, because they got raped by men who had AIDS, but I don't know if that is true or not, because I know that nobody could know who I had met that had told me they were a lesbian because I am not good at names and I never told anybody anybody's name who told me they were a lesbian, also, if they told me someone by name who had died of it I wouldn't remember who they were because I would have to see a picture of the person to know if I had met her. I worked with a man who said he had AIDS and his girlfriend had AIDS, and he told me that he got AIDS from Jeannie Cook, but I believe that he is alive and I was told that Jeannie is alive, so I think he was lying to me when he said that he had AIDS. There are several people who I met who were my friend who have died of AIDS, so it was good to read in the book about what some people are doing in the fight to end the AIDS virus. I do have a book called "AIDS and the Healthcare System" by Lawrence O. Gostin, but I never was able to read through the whole thing, even though I have had the book since 1980. I bought this book because I love Elton John and I wanted to know what he wrote in his book. Elton John was at my college campus and a girl who thought I had Elton's phone number gave me the phone number of Art Garfunkle to ask him to perform on our campus, and then she promptly asked for the paper with his phone number back after he came to perform for us. I don't know the girl's name. I met Whitney Houston on campus, and she was getting her nails done. I met Cokie Roberts. I met another famous woman comedian writer who was giving a lecture nearby and I told her about the AIDS virus when she made a joke that what if we found out there was a disease we could die from if we had sex.Read full review
