I really like Kim Harrison's world of The Hollows. I thought the doomsday scenario for mankind was very interesting, at the hands of tomatoes no less. Sounds like the attack of the killer tomatoes. At first I thought her heroine Rachel Morgan was an Anita Blake wannabe. But I have actually become a big fan of Rachel and her entourage, especially Jenks, the stud muffin, naughty boy, potty mouth pixie. There are sexy vampires, living and dead, galore and a teasing bit of romance, could use a little more. I actually came into this series back end first by reading For A Few Demons More. It was difficult to understand what was going on but I made it and then decided the storyline was worth pursuing. I have collected the Morgan series and am happily reading my way through this exciting world. While not having the same punch as some other novels in this genre, I still think it is worth the time to get to know this world.Read full review
For a witch who specializes in charms, Rachel Morgan has some lousy luck. She leaves her dead-end job, managing to get a contract put out on her lifein the process, and her subsequent attempts to bring down a crooked local bigwig could also cost her everything. Set in an alternate present where vampires, Weres and pixies live side-by-side with a reduced human population (tomato plague, and yes, you read that right), this book is funny, exciting, and even sexy. If you've ever held a job you can relate to Rachel, the plot and pacing are good, and the secondary characters are interesting in their own rights. I highly recommend it.
This a wonderfully entertaining read. With unforgettable characters, intrega, suspense, mystery and humor, with just a dash of sexual erotic tension. Set in a world where magic, myth and man cross paths every day. A place where magic is real. You will find a witch with powers even she has yet to discover and a target on her back, a living vampire with a unwanted destiny and a pixie with big ego and a even bigger family. They team up to become private eyes for the darker side of town. You will be captivated as mysteries unwind only to present new ones. A read in which once you pick it up you can't put it down and it leaves you wanting more. Kim Harrison has a unique grip of the nature of the occult, of Wicca and of relationships, both human and unhuman. I loved this from begining to end. I could not wait till the next book came out. Give it a try and take a ride on the wild side.Read full review
I couldn't put it down. Action, fleshed out characters and good story. I'm going order more books from this writer. It's a keeper for my library.
Verified purchase: Yes | Condition: Pre-owned
At first I had a hard time getting involved in the story, but once I did, I could not put it down. This is a very different story line than I am used to. The main character is a witch who lives and works with a vampire. As the book progressed you sort of believe that the characters could be real. The plot became very exciting and kept my interest. When I finished reading this book, I immediatly went on line to order the rest of the series. Don't be discouraged if you can't jump into the story right away. Give it a little time and you will be hooked.
