After watching Daniel Day Lewis, I believed I just witnessed Abraham Lincoln guiding our country. As a lover of historically-based films (JFK, W., All the President's Men to name a few), I must say this ranks ip there as one of my all-time favorites. The fascinating thing about this movie is the angle that was taken for the story. Instead of the prototypical and generic overview of a life or presidency we instead see the specifics on one of the most controversial topics in our nation's political history: emancipation. To see the wheeling and dealing done in the 19th century that we pretend to never have taken place back in the good ol' days is a refreshing twist and surely a more accurate representation of our forefathers. The film is a homerun and a must see for all!
I appreciate when a movie doesn't rewrite history, but tells the truth as best it can. Daniel Day-Lewis is a superb actor and Sally Field was also good even though I suspect she made Lincoln's wife a bit more intelligent than I ever imagined her. This is a great movie in my opinion.

Excellent as a review of history of this president. It was refreshing to see Hal Holbrook in the movie. Went to internet to see some of his Mark Twain series. I enjoy programs based on history rather than fiction.
