I have used this model and its immediate predecessors for over 10 years. This unit allows connection to weather underground and other weather services with freely available software. All newer models from this company require electric power and do not have easy connection to non-proprietary weather services. Lasts through an Alaskan winter at a remote location with only a few dropped days. Brand new batteries required at Fall maintenance visit. Obsolete product so not recommended except for special cases like remote monitoring without paying high prices for professional equipment. Limited availability of spare parts.

This weather station is an obsolete product. I ordered it basically to keep my existing weather station (same model) functioning. I cannot really recommend it because there seem to be current weather station models that are better values. The overall quality is good, except for the (difficult to replace) rechargeable AAA alkaline batteries in the wind sensor. The manufacturer (La Crosse) has not published any information on how to replace those batteries after they go bad. I broke my original wind sensor figuring out how to change them. In addition, I cannot locate the rechargeable AAA alkaline batteries it uses anywhere. So instead I used rechargeable AAA NiMH batteries, but I do not know how long the built-in solar charger will keep them alive.

I have been running the La Crosse WS-2813U-IT weather at my home for over five years and I have found it to be reasonably accurate and reliable. I think it is about the best system that could be produced for the price, although it certainly isn't perfect. It has to operate in an environment that is difficult for electronics, even in the reasonable climate of the Sacramento Valley of California. In the five years, I have had the wind gauge, rain gauge and thermo hygro unit fail at separate times. Fortunately, I have been able to purchase replacements and get the system working again. Most recently, when the thermo hygro unit went out, I purchased this full refurbished system for about $100. Using only the thermo hygro unit from the purchased system, I got things running again. Now I have some replacement units if they fail. On average, the system has cost me about $50 per year, which I think is a good value.Read full review

Aside from the fact that the Thermometer is not weather proof, and has to be in a location out of direct contact with possible rain, I am pleased with the devices. I had a very easy time getting the devices set up and talking to the base. And then getting the base to communicate with a Raspberry Pi running Raspian and WeeWx 3.5.0 weather software. Now I have all the data from the weather station displayed on a web page, accessible from anywhere. I have not even tried to install the La Crosse software. I would recommend this for a beginner. In the future, when this device eventually dies, I have told my wife I am going to invest in a more expensive unit. I am certainly glad I bought this though.

Works just fine as a second console with the original La Crosse 2812U-IT weather station. Has the same problem (for me) as the console that came with the station...it's a bit too small to see across the room. Otherwise, a great find!
