This 4-6-4 Hudson steamer is an excellent example of Lionel's Post War Era production in the mid-1950s. Watching the side-rod action when the locomotive is in motion is captivating and, for this reviewer, exceeds anything that a Diesel locomotive offers. The engine runs well on all O gauge 3-rail track from every manufacturer, and Lionel's Post War Era whistling tenders produce highly realistic steam whistle sounds, again much more satisfying than Post War Diesel horn sounds (although admittedly I loved my Diesels as well). While 60 years may have weakened the Magnetraction in these engines, their weight still makes them excellent pullers. The huge drop in perceived values in the secondary market since the heady days of the 1980s and 90s makes these engines easily affordable, and they remain as much fun for kids (of any age) now as when they first appeared under Christmas trees and in birthday boxes six decades ago. Repaint or touch up the scarred paint as necessary, replace the missing marker light jewels with readily available repro parts, and run this unstoppable beauty as she was meant to run--as a rugged toy that is intriguing to watch and whose operation is always dependable. Even scarred and faded from a lifetime of hauling O gauge freights over many scale miles of 3-rail track, she's beautiful.Read full review

The Lionel 2055 4-6-4 steam engine was a Santa Fe style Hudson produced from 1953-1955. It was offered by Lionel as a 027 gauge engine and was a solid, dependable steamer of very good quality modeled after the 685. Offered in sets or by itself, the locomotive ran with either the 2046W or 6026W whistling tenders. It featured magnetraction, three-position E-unit, a working headlight and smoke. A popular mid-range choice in the early 1950’s, it remains the same today. And chances are good if you pull one from an attic and put it on the track, it will run just as well today!

This is a very good Lionel locomotive that I purchased through E-Bay for a very reasonable price. It was manufactured from 1950-1952, by Lionel it is a 4-6-4 Hudson type, and it appears to have been well care for during its previous years of operation.
