I've had the newer, latest design 7-cup KitchenAid food processor, and I find this older design to be of higher quality and durability. There are lots of nice little touches on this one that are better, but some things I most like are that the mixing bowl is lower and wider, making it easier to get ingredients in and out of this bowl (and easier to clean it), and the base is wider, making it more stable when the ingredients in the bowl are unbalanced at first. Now, both models are fairly weak, as far as that they come to a stop if you put very dense, dry ingredients in there without enough liquid. However, the newer model came to a stop and never worked again; it's just dead for good. While this model is much better in that it comes to a stop, but then a few minutes later it works again, so it only shuts down temporarily to protect the motor. That is much better than it being dead forever. All in all, I really love this food processor, and the only reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is that it's fairly weak when dealing with very dense ingredients.Read full review

I really thought I would love this food processes especially given that I've only ever used $20 black and decker's up to it, but I'd be wrong. The cheap B&D's cut faster, hold up longer, clean easier, come apart faster, have better bowel designs to avoid messes, and stay in place better. The only thing this kitchen aid has done better than the B&D's is be able to cut food a different sizes without a disk change... I have learned that really that's not a good feature, it's nicer to just have 2-3 different size disks you switch out as the one size disks are so much easier to clean.

I have had other brands of processors, but have broken them within a year. I am especially impressed by the bowl on this model, because its very heavyweight plastic. The motor is quiet but seems to be quite a bit stronger than others I have had. I like the Exactslice system and it works well with what we have tried so far. This was a refurbished model which doesn't bother me a bit. For the price I paid it was a great deal. I should have got it sooner.
