This is more what drew me to Anita Blake in the first place! Don't get me wrong, she still has her hands full trying to decide how to live her polyarmorous life but there's more of the whodunit that I had initially grown to love about Anita. I admire Anita's fierce sense of protection and obligation to those she loves and cares for. I'd like to know there was someone as cool and calculating as her in my corner in the event the monsters succeeded in taking me out. She'd make them regret their actions, for sure! Laurell K. Hamilton seemed to have spent a number of the previous books taking us through the complication of Anita's love life. It's well-established now and we can proceed on to other things...like what the heck is Olaf/Otto up to, the creepsville, serial killing, motherless son of a biscuit eater!??? Now there is a very scary, last face you'll ever see kind of monster! I've gone this far with Anita and I plan to stay the course for as long as she remains a force for Laurell K. to write about. Spend some time with Anita; she'll grow on you!Read full review

A good book, but not her best effort. Felt like reading two short stories put together with a lot of filler. Not as strong as her recent books.
