The KPG-89D software program works great for programming my Kenwood TK-8180K-2 radio for Ham frequencies (in Wideband), GMRS frequencies (in Narrowband or Wideband) and Commercial LMR frequencies (which are Narrowband only). Version 1.60 is the latest version that does both Narrowband and Wideband. Be sure to use with a true FTDI Chip programming cable or you could wind up with driver compatibility issues and inadvertently "brick" your radio. Generally speaking, if a programming cable requires a driver disk be sold with it in order to make it work, beware - it is most likely not FTDI.

This Kenwood radio (the TK3180) is a fantastic unit. It has solid construction with surprisingly good looks. The selectivity and sensitivity are great, and the programming software (KPG89D) is very well written and user friendly. The unit can be configured in so many ways to cover so many different scenarios. It's a great value for the money for a much better radio than the HT1250 There's a reason so many public safety (fire and ems) use this unit and it's VHF brother.
