  • Get One!

The Oriole was discontinued years ago, and I love mine, so I just bought an extra. I enjoy taking pictures with my IPad Air, and it fits in this lumbar pack in it's protective bumper case. It just barely fits, but it fits and I can zipper it up. There is also room for other items in the web pockets on the sides and in the flap compartment in the front, plus there is a little zipper pocket inside too. Wearing it on my hips puts no strain on my back, and I wear the pouch in the front so I have easy access to all my stuff. I wish this high quality pack was still being made. It's small, but it holds an amazing amount of stuff. Buy one before they are all off the market!

  • Kelty Oriole is awesome

This thing has it all figured out. The waist belt is wide so its comfortable. When not being used, it tucks into its hideaway rather than dangling and looking sloppy. The Oriole has a shoulder strap and carry handle, drink holders, and is the perfect size. Ive had a bigger waist pack but a bigger load than the Oriole feels awkward as a waist pack, you need a backpack. Its cool that you can swing it around to your front and access stuff in it without taking it off. MUCH quicker and more convenient than a backpack, and the limited motion required to do that isnt as likely to scare away birds if youre using it on a wildlife-viewing hike. I own a ton of packs and bags and this is my favorite.

  • Best Lumbar Pack Ever

I have used an Oriole pack for 15+ years (2 units now). I usually buy one and place it in storage for when I need a new one. I use the Oriole pack every day. Usually a zipper gives out in 7 years or so. Recently, I opened up my reserve unit and put it into service so I ordered a RARE new one for storage. I figured I won't need another one after I use up my current bag and then the one in reserve. By then, I'll be in my mid to late 80's so it's likely I'll be too old to need one after that.

  • Very good compact pack; carries all

I was looking for a pack to carry that would not be bulky. This is it! I mostly overlap the waist flaps through the cover pocket on the real so it looks like the photo and the side straps are out of the way. For hiking or strenuous movement I pull out the straps and secure around my waist. Water bottle pockets are handy for other items too. I can even drop in my keys for temporary safe keeping. Pockets are plenty big and secure with zippers. Front adjustable flap is great for temporary holding. It iss really larger capacity than it looks. Handy for travelling or hiking.
