I purchased this sewing machine after having owned a standard Pfaff Hobby 1040 sewing machine. I wanted my granddaughter to learn on a standard machine and she enjoyed mine so much. I, however, was ready for some additional stitches, a needle threader (since my eyesight is dimishing) and the world of computerized sewing. I like my new machine. The needle threader is fantastic. I needed that and it works easily. I like the stitch options and they're simple to select and navigate. I need to memorize some of the basic ones; I'm always referring to the manual. The buttonhole maker is very easy to use and makes pretty buttonholes in one step. The feet are easy to change to. The bobbin winds easily and the threading is the same as I had with my Pfaff. The stitches are pretty, lots of them to try out. I purchased a large table to go with my machine also, and this helps when sewing larger projects. It fits perfectly when slid into place. I also have hemmed some levis with just the small arm and found it to be very easy to do. The machine sailed over the seam of the levis with no problem and the stitch was even and tight. I can't say anything negative about the machine; I wish it had the scissor feature, but it does have a thread cutter like I'm used to. I've had it just a few weeks and I sew a lot. It meets my needs, seems durable in every way and I'm glad I purchased it. I just need to memorized some of the stitches so that I'm not referring back to the manual--glad to have the manual. There are so many stitch combinations! It will take me some time to use them all!Read full review

I am thrilled with my new Janome Skyline S5. I have found it very easy to use and a huge step up from my Singer Quantum Stylus 9960. It came with a good variety of presser feet and the included DVD was very helpful. I have already made several new things with it and am very pleased with the results. I love having the seam markings on the bobbin cover as it makes it so much easier for me to sew a straight seam. That was one thing about my other sewing machines... no guidelines except on the needle plate which made it much harder to see when sewing. The computerized screen is easy to use and the ability to change stitches is a breeze. Having the legend of stitches on the top cover where it's easy to read is also a plus. Having a 25 year warranty doesn't hurt either. All in all, I can see myself using this machine for many, many years and probably will not ever need to purchase another one. Thank you!!!Read full review

This machine comes with many different stitch options! It’s super easy to use! I purchased my machine brand new 14 months ago. I’ve completed over a dozen quilts with my machine. Today it runs as good as new!

I bought this machine based on reviews. I needed to replace a disappointing Singer which actually had more stitch options than thus Janome, but needed repair even though it had very light use in the short time I had it. With this Janome, I just finished making three 50" square quilts and the machine had no issues. It ran smoothly and as long as I changed needles often had absolutely no issues. The only disappointment was that I did not find how to operate free motion for quilting. While the manual shows how to lower the feeddogs it does not explain how to minimize footpressure for random freestyle motion.
