After reading all the reviews on this camera and watching lots of footage, I decided to buy one and I'm glad I did. Initially, I was disappointed in the image quality but soon realized I had the neutral density filter on. Once I turned that off, the image quality improved drastically. I then went through all the settings and set it up for the look I like. I shoot 24P for film and 30P for events, etc., to be posted on the web. First the bad... the lcd is low resolution. The image does not match what the camera produces so do not be dismayed by what you see there. I set the lcd as close to possible to the image via the lcd settings menu. This worked pretty good. Just trust the camera. Second, the lens does not have a macro mode so it won't focus closer than around 1 foot (not sure about the exact distance). Those are the only issues I have with this camera. Beyond that, the image quality is suberb. So far, I've only shot in HD 1920 X 1080, Quicktime format, 35MB bitrate, which means I haven't used the high quality settings yet. I shoot to post on the web so I haven't needed to use 4K yet. But I'll be working on a movie coming soon. I expect the image quality to be nothing less than superb. To get a good image, you must take the time to go through the camera settings and set it up for the best picture. I own the JVC HD110 and Panasonic DVC30 so going through the settings was second nature to me. I highly recommend this camera. With all the manual settings, it's perfect for my type of shooting. I usually prefer a shoulder mounted camera but that's not a deal breaker. I keep my gain at 6 or less, and adjust aperture and shutter speed to get my desired image. If you don't like shooting in manual mode, don't buy this camera. In auto mode, it raises the gain too high, which causes the image to be too grainy... not good.Read full review

This camera falls short in so many ways..the best thing it has going for it is its relatively cheap, I use 3 of them with my tricaster to shoot almost every day. All I can say is you have to make sure you have lots of light, They are terrible in even moderate light, Way too much grain. If I had it to do over again I would have held out for a better set of cameras...but I am making money with them anyway. I went through every setting I could to try to improve the image quality and there is just nothing I could do. I do not recommend them for weddings or anything that you cannot make sure you have very good light, I do not use them 4k only HD. The SD card slots are nice. The pop out screen image is not accurate and the viewfinder is almost useless. They are light...and you have alot of control over iris, gain, shutter etc. Sometimes the buttons are hard to find. The handle with XLR is a good feature and seems to work ok but the buttons on it are small and cheapish. All in all I would say if you need a HD or 4k camera and cant afford anything better get them. Otherwise, buy something with better low light capability.Read full review

I filmed in 4k with this camera wide angle and I can crop it to 75% and produce in 1080 and it looks gorgeous this camera is excellent for shooting wide angles and then zooming later in post production, an absolute game changer for filming with two cameras. The camera on the right is the 170. Filmed wide with it and did close ups with the other, camera. Also if you shoot 4k 150 mgb it is not bad in low light with the gain on 15 dB but if you shoot HD it will be grainy but in 4K it looks good because of the size of the image.

The quality of the video and pictures are very great. It is, really. I am not a novice in video or photography, so I no better. Some people say it’s outdated; who says! I believe they really do not know how to use the equipment to the fullest. For your bucks, this equipment will give you the best you need. Get the best out of it.

Its a great camera if you are looking to step up to a more professional model. Once you learn how to operate it and adjust everything to your liking it's perfect.. except the lcd screens is poor quality. I bought anew external monotitor that hooks right up to the camera and it is much clearer.
