This set is complete, but is unfortunately a non anamorphic presentation, meaning that it doesn't fill up the tv screen (about 80%). It was a promotional set labeled "not for retail sale". There is also no menu of any kind and are no special features. The set, as I mentioned is complete, unlike the 4 disc versions for sale that have been heavily edited, so if you don't mind the above issues, it's worth owning. The set was new and unopened, so the seller said he was unaware of it's short comings. He also said he would correct his description of the set on seller page. As for the content, I can sort of understand why the 4 disc version has been edited., as iIt makes the U.S. government look extremely bad in ithe way Native Americans were treated. It should be shown unedited to all high school students, and all those who wish to know the unvarnished truth of how we mostly destroyed a great native culture.Read full review

Was a great story about the West It really tries to show how it affected the Indians. Great writers and directing. A cast of very good actors. My favorite character was Abe Wheeler. Christian Kane played Abe and made him a so believable person. The world was so different back then, we can't judge it by our standards. We can't change the past but if we can learn by our mistakes we will be a better people.

Into the West starting in 1827 Virginia follow the Wheeler family and the development of relationships with the Lakota family of Loved by the Buffalo and his sister Thunder Heart Woman. Engaging, entertaining, heartfelt. What an amazingly wonderful work. Highly Recommended. Suitable for all ages. A must see and own to view again.

A history buff would find it hard work to refute this naked saga of the early West. An engaging family becomes intimate through several generations of growth and struggle. You won't want this great story to end.

I have never seen a show that paints such a vivid & accurate history of the white man's plight into the west like this mini-series. For almost my entire life I have studied the old west through travel, books and movies. To understand why this series is so important to us, especially our youth, you must throw aside your preconceived notions of what you have been taught in history class and open your mind to what Spielberg is trying to convey. He is showing us the BIG PICTURE here of the reality of life during these grandeur yet gruesome times and the strong, the greedy and the weak individuals who occupied this timeframe. Humankind will never again be able to experience the freedom the great west had to offer during that time. Terrible danger & death accompanied such quests for freedom but tremendous progress was made as well... at an extreme price, basically the extinction of the ways of the Native American peoples. I am ashamed for my Anglo race at the way they destroyed what was once beautiful. I also realize that Anglo progress was reality and there was nothing that could stop it. If you are able and willing I ask that you put yourself in the moccasins of the Native Americans who struggled with the issues of the time when watching this show. Their culture and their ways were (and still are) severely misunderstood by past and modern day Americans. Or try understanding the courage of Jacob Wheeler when he stood morally upright to the comdemning views of public society of the time. Some of the reviews I read seem to nitpick at some very minor things with this series and I am guessing they failed to see what I saw... a hugely important video portrayal of historical significance. It would take many years of reading books and travelling the west to truly understand what the old west was actually like but this movie is a great window to look through to gain a broad persepective of the times. Favorite line goes something like this... Jedadiah Smith is talking to Jacob Wheeler on a mountainside and says: "God fashioned man a bit above the beasts and a bit below the angels. The great thing is that you have a choice." We all have free will to make choices and this series does a great job in showing how the choices of all nationalities during the time sculpted the nation we live in today. I highly recommend this to anyone.Read full review
