Xeon X5460 is a LGA771 CPU (intended for servers) and with a relatively simple modification of your LGA775 motherboard you can use it there and get a CPU of with better performance than Core 2 Quad Q9650, which is the most expensive Core 2 Quad CPU (around 3 times more expensive than X5460). Otherwise it runs with a frequency 3.16GHz and has 4 cores and works really nicely with my LGA775 motherboard. I don't really see any cons, except that the CPU has a high TDP of 120W (which your motherboard and cooler have to support) So basically what you get is a really cheap CPU that is better than the best and most expensive Core2Quad version. Don't really have anything else to say.

Not much to say about it. For this price you get a four core processor that, can be overclocked if you want. If you don't want to overclock it, well it is still a good processor. I've managed to overclock mine to 3,8Ghz, with a reasonable low voltage (1.2V actually). At this clock, it's an excellent processor for mid range videocards like the nvidia GTX 950 or the AMD R9 270X. I recommend it!

Perfect. A little bump for my old machine. i've replaced my old q9450 with this one. Just use a good thermal paste, and the stock intel cooler will work ( the tall one, not the small). 70c at full load is acceptable. 120w tdp is a lot. Remember that this will work only on some motherboards, just check google..." your mother + xeon mod "or something like that. Reset your cmos before boot. Pd: there's some stepping (submodels) that allow a lot of overclock. If you're going to play with that option, check first with vendor with stepping are shipping. Regards.

Have old home built computer that used to run a 3.16MHz dual core proc. 3.16MHz Xeon was about $1000 when released so this price is fantastic. Xeons are built to a somewhat higher standard than 'consummer' Intel chips so I had no fears buying used. It has been running all 4 cores 100% for about 6 months 'looking for aliens' (SETI @Home) Because the price is now so low I bought a second one to experiment with. I'm going to see how reliable it is when overclocked. If it breaks through over heating or over voltage (possible) I can get things running again in about 30 mins. The only downside I've found is the power requirement and extra heat produced needed a better CPU cooler

I had a PC wizard get me on the Xeon Processors for Networking in Full tower Cases, so I took his input as good as gold for my needs.
