"The Wire" is better, more expansive social analysis---no, "Homocide" is better; tighter, more cohesive narrative;---well, no, the 19th century narrative sprawl of "The Wire" has the edge; it's modern tragedy in Black life;---well, no, maybe "Homocide" has more mystery: Bayliss's secrets, G's grief, Pembleton's swagger drenched in Black self-awareness. Oh, forget it: watch both and weep---though you will laugh, too. No doubt: No series of city life are deeper than these.

DVD Fourth Season Homicide: Life on the Streets I have had bad luck ordering pre-owned DVDs but I took my chances because the entire season isn't streaming anywhere. YouTube has some episodes but not on a full screen. This is in excellent condition, like new defying my expectations. Arrived promptly, too.

Well written series. I could easily overdose on all the seasons in one setting, but I control myself by watching only 2 episodes a day. You need to see the entire seasons to really get the full flavor of the actors and their inter-personal relationships at work. The story line is so captivating, that you learn to like, dislike or love the characters and their inter-personal work relationships. I love the way the Homicide looks at the crime, solving a crime and the detectives lives away from the job without turning the series into a sappy day-time soap.
Homicide Life on the Street greatest cop series ever-- except for maybe the The Wire of course. It's a toss up. Then don't forget to read Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets by David Simon.
