I've never had locking tuners before so this was new to me. I bought a bare Fender neck here on ebay and needed to buy tuners because I had none. The neck was made for the Fender vintage tuners so they had the 8.5mm holes. It also had screw holes from the previous tuners so these tuners would fit the tuner holes and the UMB plate would cover the screw holes. If I ever decided to go back to the vintage tuners there would be no problem. Overall these tuners did everything I expected and more. The only issue was the plate covered all but 1/2 of one screw hole. You can barely notice it so I'm happy and it was the best solution out there.

I bought this hoping it would be a drop in replacement for the lame tuners on my Peavey Predator. They are not an exact fit, but they are really close. The plate doesn't fully cover the old screw holes, in case you're wondering. After enlarging the holes a bit, (21/64 drill and some hand sanding) the installation was very easy. My Predator now holds tune and sounds much, MUCH better. A reasonably priced upgrade for a common problem on the Peavey Predator. Very much worth the small effort required.

I bought the Squier after sending back a MIM Fender Thin Line that had a few minor flaws. And I'm glad I did. The Indonesia Squier was flawless, but needed some hardware upgrades. So I replaced the stock tuners with the "Hipshot Vintage 8.5 staggered tuners." I had to open the holes slightly (no big deal), and the Hipshot mounting kit made the installation easy and perfect. I think that a guitar approaching a $1000.00 bucks should be flawless. So I'm glad I sent the MIM back. For about a $140.00 worth of up-grades, my Squier Thinline is now nicer than the MIM Thinline. I replaced the Tuners, the nut and the saddles and it still came in at $300.00 less than the MIM Thinline. Hipshot is the way to go for a professional, cost effective upgrade. "I be soooo Happy!!!!"

Great product. Easy to install. Strings hold tune. Beats having to drill out the headstock to make 10mm holes.

Quick and easy replacement for vintage style tuners on a Fender strat, these look, feel, and most important stay in tune better than the originals. The UMP worked as advertised, brilliant idea that lets you avoid drilling any new holes in the headstock. The staggered height posts let me remove the string tree, too, an added bonus for tuning stability. Can't recommend these highly enough!
