My wife is into scrap booking. We couldn't decide between this printer or the Canon Selphy ES30 and eventually bought both. As far as print quality, they are very close, but I would give a slight edge to the A826. The Canon does win out in cost by almost a penny a picture if you buy the value packs for each. Both claim the ink/film is fade resistant for many, many years. HP definitely has the edge in print flexibility with options of 4X6, 5X7, plus a 4X12 panoramic, all borderless. The Canon is limited to 4X6. As far as being stand alone printers with photo editing capability, I would rate them about equal. Both contain similar, but very basic features, such as brightness, cropping, b&w, sepia, red eye removal, etc. The HP gets a plus for for its 7" screen vs 3.5" for the Selphy, and the selphy gets a plus for cuteness and the fact it has a carrying handle making it slightly more portable than the A826 When it comes to special effects (borders, inserting clip art or text) that is where the differences lie. I feel the Canon has more special effects (my wife loves the faded borders and pinhole effects) but I believe you are limited to just one effect per picture. The HP allows you to have multiple effects (e.g. clip art, text, and border) on the same picture. Bottom line, if you are just looking for a stand alone printer with some basic photo editing capability, you can't go wrong with either one. If you are a scrap booker who attends parties, but don't want to drag around your laptop computer you will be happy with either, but envious of the other and probably wind up with both like we did.Read full review
This was purchased as a Christmas gift as a companion present to a Canon camera I also purchased for my wife. With very easy out of the box setup and a highly intuitive user interface, you can get productive with this printer and start printing your digital images in minutes. If you're into quickly churning out prints for photo albums or scrapbooks, this printer deserves serious consideration. There are some limited editing functions built-in, so you can nearly bypass any computer requirements and go straight from capture to printing if you like. I found the red-eye correction to be somewhat hit-or-miss, as it could not always detect the red-eye in the subject unless they were directly facing the camera with eyes wide open. the red-eye correction was much less successful on sublects at an angle to the lens, or squinting slightly. Still, the majoriy of the prints it turned out were surprisingly good; about on par with what you'd get from a 60 min. lab. It's too soon to comment on how economical it is to use, though I can report that the color ink cartridge goes for about $18-20 online, and a package of 100 sheets of 4X6 glossy photo paper will set you back about $13. Whether the ink will last through an entire package of paper remains to be seen.Read full review
Hi, I have owned many portable printers in the past, and this one is so superior and does so much more. The quality of the photos is almost as good as Office Max's Kodak machine and it does text and 5X7's also!!! The other printers I had that were small only printed 4X6's. It also does frames, editing, and is very easy to use. My girlfriend bought one & brought it to a scrapbooking crop to show everyone and I was sold. I bought mine the next day and I love it!! This is the 2nd. Photo Smart printer that I have had. Because it worked so well, I bought a second when the first died after 5 years of service. I would still be using it, I am sure, if I had not put one of those "Refilled Ink Cartridges"!!!!!! DO NOT EVER USE ANY OF THOSE AFTER MARKET CARTRIDGES!!!!!!! I killed my printer and you have no recourse with the manufacturer. It is s great printer, easy to use and I am very happy with my current HP A-826.
Verified purchase: Yes | Condition: Pre-owned
Now this printer is amazing why HP ever decided to discontinue it I will never understand! Now its so easy to use with the big touch screen, takes lots of photo paper in one go, is compatible with most types of cards and cameras. The photo quality itself is amazing! I love it so much I actually brought more of them!
