When HP first introduced its Model J4580 all-in-one printer (print, copy, FAX, and scan) not too many years ago, it installed easily using the supplied CD and worked like a charm on the first try. Replacing ink cartridges and self alignment was a breeze also. My first one lasted many years but finally failed mechanically after a week or warning clunking sounds. When I contacted HP, I was informed that the J4580 was no longer available. The closest current model would require new downloads from the Internet to become operational. That might be fine for computers connected to the Internet but for standalone computers isolated from the Internet for protection, it was unacceptable. What to do? Although HP no longer supplies the J4580, it is still available on Amazon or e-Bay, and I bought a replacement there. It works just fine, just like its predecessor. HP needs to learn to offer printers that are retro-compatible. That is, they will operate on previously installed drivers and related software for older models. One of the fundamental pillars of engineering wisdom is: Newer is not necessarily better.Read full review

This all in one serves basic needs in a home office. Pro: Fast printing even in color. Con: Uses a lot of ink, quality of print does not reflect ink usage. Pro: Easy setup fill in the blanks, HP support now has single download will auto detect and install proper driver for your device. Con: Not a WIFI device shared printer must be connected to a powered on computer for network usage. PRO: It is the right price Cheap. I paid more $$ for the ink than the printer. Overall I like this all in one and is cheap enough if it breaks no big loss buy another one.
This would have been my third J4580 All-in-One, beginning in the 2000 decade, and the others worked loyally. It doesn't work, unless it can be repaired. I also bought the 1-Year Allstate Protection Plan (Electronics $50-75) But how do I use it? I have received no written assurance, no phone number, or any Philadelphia area addresses for repair. I hope it was worth buying. When the printer arrived the boxing was intact and seemed solid. (I saved it.) I made sure to lift it out by grasping the bottom, not the moveable parts. The printer looks clean and turns on, but can go no further. Even to my bad eyesight (I’m 87) both the color and black cartridge areas look slightly non-perpendicular. Perhaps because of that they don't travel with the sliding bar, and the warped cartridge containers won’t allow fresh, never before opened, HP-brand 901 cartridges to click in. The printer can't recognize them, and keeps repeating the error. Thus the printer can't print and is useless, unless I can get it fixed using the Protection Plan, Read full review

I decided to byt this when my old Lexmark died on me. This was the best value I found on Ebay, less than $80. It performs all functions well, which is unusual, and it is every user-friendly. I love how quickly it prints. I dislike the fact that it inhales ink, I hate the fact that all tech support comes from India. Trying to communicate with them is near impossible. They do not listen. Email support is also from India, but somewhat better. Overall, I am delighted with my purchase. The seller was terrific to deal with.
