If your looking to get any knife that you own sharp this is it! I've wasted a lot of time and money trying to free hand knives on various prices of stones and didnt yield the results I wanted. I would get a "shaving sharp edge" but it would always be a rough edge and rough shave. With this system you can get knives and tools so sharp that you can rest the blade on an item and the edge will already start grabbing and cutting. I got mine at a reduced price but shipping was high due to priority and location to location. So I'd recommend if you can find this set for $45.00 or so with free shipping dont question it just make the purchase. Also some things of note. Buy the base or the clamp to mount it to a flat work surface your experience using the jig will be that much better and easier. This system utilizes varying grits of stone, I'd say if its within your budget get the diamond stones, even though both stones will last longer the diamond versions with proper care will likely outlast the stone version. As well as you have the advantage of removing metal with diamonds over a standard stone. This translates into less man hours at varying grits of stone. All in all good product the only negative I have about mine is the case or box the system comes in. Mine doesnt seal 100% on all corners but because I'm leaving mine affixed to a bench and my garage is closed I'm not to worried about it. At this point it serves as a container for the components and that's all I need just wish it would close more securely.Read full review

Nice, but the item I received is not as pictured. (thus the 2 start rating I gave it) The gap at the end of the sharpening clamp is only about 3/16" to 1/4" quarter inch deep instead of the 1/2" to 3/4" pictured. I think it would have a hard time holding a larger knife. If I had known this I would have not purchased this unit and will probably have to end up grinding down the gap to make it deeper. Overall it seems like a quality unit but I do not appreciate getting something different than pictured. Also, apparently there is a base you can purchase SEPARATELY for the clamp that makes sharpening much easier. Otherwise you have to hold the clamp in your hand.

It makes a nice sharp edge with no guess work. I do think it is a bit pricey and definitely not comfortable on the hands without the stand, which is not included. I think if it’s just used to touch up a few knives it would be alright without the stand but if your building knifes either plan on buying the stand or make one

I just purchased this sharpener for my hunting and kitchen knives , after skinning and quartering 2 bull Elk this past October all my knives were pretty dulled up from the fur , i tried the belt type sharpener on one knife and it was no where near as sharp as the knife had been , so i ordered this sharpener , the first knife i tried it on was the knife i screwed up with the belt sharpener ,i clamped the knife blade in the jaws of the holder , i put the rod in the 25 degree slot and i used each stone to get the edge back , doing as the instructions said , and ran the stone towards the tip of the blade , and afterwards , i grabbed a piece of paper and tried to do what they did in the movie Rambo First Blood , where the Sheriff cuts the paper with Rambo's knife , mine cut just as easily , i was totally impressed , i used the lower angle for my kitchen knives , (20 degree) , this kit does not come with Stone Oil , the bottle is empty when it arrives , i decided to just use tap water in it , and along with a old tooth brush , it cleans the stones of the residue easily Pros: Everything i mentioned above , it does what it says it does and makes sharpening easier for those of us without the skill of getting the proper angle consistently by by hand Cons: I could not think of a single thing i did not like about this product , if there is one little thing , i would say , i wish the rods and stones were slightly longer to allow easier sharpening of longer knives , other than that , i have nothing negative to say about it at all Its a great product for a minimal price compared to the ones i find in the Sporting Good Stores that are the same thing , but literally twice as much money , its as good in quality from what i can tell , i found nothing weak or made any different than the more expensive onesRead full review
