Well worth the effort and time
It's not that I have seen these go bad, I suppose they can. What does wear out is the O ring and that causes a significant oil leak on the front rear side of the engine. You can purchase just the O ring for about $6 or the entire tensioner for about 4 times as much. Being you have to remove the tensioner to replace the O ring, I chose to replace the tensioner with a genuine Toyota OEM part. You get what you pay for and I go with original if it is an affordable option. In this case it was.It's not that I have seen these go bad, I suppose they can.
