What more to say? It's from Garmin and it works great, like all Garmin products. This model (GPS18x) is the OEM version, designed to wire in to your finished product. If you can't use the Hirose connector on the leads you can replace it with your own connector which does not compromise the warranty. It runs on 5VDC and provides a Pulse-Per-Second output. The outputs are faux-RS232 level so you will need a RS-232 port to communicate with it; Garmin offer a USB version if that's what you need. We've built this into hundreds of final products with very few issues. It has quite fast "cold start" satellite detection, usually less than a minute. "Warm start" is usually less than 15 seconds. Reception is great, even when in a cityscape of urban canyons or inside wooden buildings. I will keep buying these as long as Garmin keep making them.Read full review

Highlight the Garmin model with the index 00321-36. This "36" option has a separate output line with a pulse-per-second logic-level output with a rising edge aligned to within 1 microsecond of UTC time. The GPS satellite signals are based off of onboard atomic clocks which are in turn synchronized to ground based atomic clocks that are the primary references for timekeeping. They represent the passage of time at the earth's geoid. The long term stability of the 1pps is perfect. Common option GPS with USB interface is not ideal, because not issue this signal. To create your's own high-precision reference time server, you can use only this Garmin index "36" GPS receiver with 1pps.
Unit worked as described. Technical resources (manual) can be found on Garmin's website. Bummer thing is I did not read this until after I purchased it. Garmin GPS 18x USB does not transmit NMEA sentences, only garmin sentences. The Garmin GPS 18x LVC does transmit NMEA sentences, so I will be selling this and purchasing the latter.

Great deal. Has a nonstandard connection to fit an old 2-way radio, but most people cut of the usual OEM connector anyway. Old stock, so needs firmware update if you need the right date from it.
