Rating:PG-13 College professor and inventing enthusiast Robert Kearns (Greg Kinnear) has come up with a motor that runs windshield wipers automatically, removing the aggravation of drivers forced to control the rain-clearing action on their own. Excited about his invention, Robert, with friend Gil (Dermot Mulroney), takes the wipers to the major automakers, hoping to score big and take care of his large family, including supportive wife, Phyllis (Lauren Graham). While Ford takes on Kearns, pushing him into years of development and encouraging plans for a factory of his own, the company soon realizes keeping the inventor around isn't good for business, eventually ignoring him and canceling his dreams. Years later, when Robert discovers his design on a new line of automobiles, he engages in a legal fight to protect his patent that would come to test the boundaries of his marriage and his own sanity. Hope this helps you decide. Thanks for reading!:)Read full review
Greg Kinnear is so damn believable. I watched him on Talk Soup for years, I just can't get over how every time he's in something I get lost in the character. That aside, I think the message is don't settle for anything but the truth, and that fact that his motivation is his kids. This is a film to watch with the kids. Robert Kearns [the guy in real life] is an American hero, and his little small voice prevails and that is simply inspirational. The movie follows how Kearns gets his invention stolen by the auto industry, and then how he fights back and yes... the best part... wins. See it, it's a pull yourself up by the bootstraps movie. **If you found this information at all helpful, please take a moment to select the "yes" button below. its so sad that the GM's and Fords or the world treat inventers and people with good ideas this way. With Millionaire salaries at the top, they have forgotten who buys their products. Its us poor, working mid class people. And sometimes we do have very good ideas. Why make us poorer?
