This is the finest historical radio documentary that I've ever seen. Though it primarily tells the stories of the MEN who made radio,(hence the title)it also follows radio broadcasting history from radio technology's conception through the end of radio's golden age. The documentary is rich with nostalgia and the tone is warm and enjoyable. An added bonus is the appearance of wordsmith and radioman Norman Corwin. This is one of Ken Burn's finest!
interesting film on how the radio came to be

Excellent DVD for information on early Radio. Covers the competition between Sarnoff, Armstrong, DeForest, Edison, and many others. Describes the early competition and monopolies, and the attempts at first breaking them up, i.e. Red and Blue network, etc. Discusses overseas broadcasts, shortwave receivers, rise and fall of entrepreneurs of early Radio.
This is a first-rate production that chronicles the early days of broadcasting. Exceptionally well-edited by a master filmmaker. The background stories of the men who conceived the idea of mass appeal programming, and their sometimes unsavory battles between themselves and their fellow inventors.
