Anderton's organization and writing is super for the musician who is beginning to tinker with his/her electronics, and has enough detailed projects to satisfy an expert electrical engineer. I bought it solely to construct the phase shifter project, but I will likely make some of the other projects in it as well. Unfortunately, its designs have not been updated over the years as certain parts have become obsolete, so a few of the designs (such as the phase shifter) either require searching for old stocks of obsolete parts or redesigning the circuit. I'm an electrical engineer so I'm doing the latter, but when I bought the book I was hoping to avoid doing my own design work. Overall I'm glad I purchased the book and have learned from the designs.
This book, along with a few other references, could easily be the perfect start for a long career in electronics. If you've always been interested in music, stereos, electric guitar, keyboard synthesizers, (or computers,) this book makes it possible to get started even if you have no background other than curiosity. A subsequent book, Digital Electronic Projects for Musicians brings in more of the computer aspect. Some folks may think that electronics are impossible, but Craig Anderton has a great writing style that make this better than any textbook could ever be.
