I never realized how drafty my unlit fireplace was until we had warm days that resulted in downdrafts where you could smell the sooty chimney. On cold days, you could feel a draft going up the chimney despite closing the flue and having a glass door covering the front of the fireplace. I decided to give the Enviro Energy Square Fire Place plug a try and after a few attempts I was able to insert it into the chimney. The best way to install it is to partially inflate it, form a V and stick it into the flue best you can using the T that comes with it for support. Check for drafts and adjust the plastic best you can to stop the drafts, then inflate it solid. I was able to stop about 97% of the draft. The other 3% I plugged up using some window foam strips. I have bolts and screws that stick out in the chimney that hold the flue in place that caused these gaps. The T could be a little wider to help support the Plug when you are inserting it and perhaps some foam strips should be included. At little cheaper price would make this product a better bang for the buck, but it did include shipping.($59.99) II does the job as advertised- Stops the drafts and the sooty smell on warm downdraft days. Didn’t stop draft for my fireplace. Followed instructions and still leaves gaps. Don’t really recommend this item. It is basically just a balloon.
