The photograph of Elvis Presley posing in his gold lame outfit is perhaps the most striking image of him throughout the decade of the 50s. It encapsulates everything that he brought to the forefront in American popular culture. This very same photo was used for a brilliant effect on the front cover of the 1959 album, "50,000,000 Elvis Fans Can't Be Wrong-Elvis' Gold Records, Volume Two". Both the A and B sides of five singles appear on this album. The 10 songs included were all hits released between 1958 and '59. This album was also released while Elvis was stationed in the Army in Germany. In the summer of 1997, in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of Elvis' death, RCA reissued this compilation by upgrading it with 10 additional selections, bringing a total of 20 songs together (the other 4 volumes in the 'Gold Records' series were also upgraded with extra tracks, as well). It is the best volume in this series, as it captures the sound of 50s Elvis at its finest. Furthermore, the 10 songs from the original version were placed in a different sequence alongside the other 10 tracks. This newer running order overall works quite effectively. Hit singles like "A Fool Such As I", "Big Hunk O' Love", "One Night" and "Wear My Ring Around Your Neck" share the same disc with songs such as "King Creole", "Mean Woman Blues" and "Peace In The Valley". There are even 2 selections from "Elvis' Christmas Album" also featured. This album was issued in CD, cassette and vinyl LP formats. This is the definitive version of "Gold Records, Volume 2"; true early rock and roll gems.Read full review
This is a compilation of some of Elvis’ recordings when he was on top of the charts and and doing what he did best — singing what he wanted and the way he wanted. It’s a great CD for anyone who’s a fan.
