I bought this sound system to add to a first generation Kato SD-40 that I converted to DCC with a Digitrax decoder. It plugs right in and works seamlessly. Programming CVs was easy and the 6 pre programmed locomotive sounds spanned a wide variety. I chose the SD70, which has the same prime mover as the SD40. The little speaker sounds great and doesn’t distort the sound, and fits inside the frame For less than $40 there is no comparison for DCC sound!

I have a couple F-3's that I bought off eBay at a great price and trying to keep cost down, I tried the Digitrax Soundbug. For budget minded modelers, this is perfect! you can adjust sounds and it really does sound great for the money! I am going to put one in an Erie Built soon and expect it to sound just as good in that. Kind of limited for diesel sounds but I have read you can download other engine sounds into it but I have not yet tried. Great price and a great product!!

I have several of the Soundbug modules in my locomotives. They are a little tight in the Atlas Alco RS3 locomotives but do fit. They work great. Never had a problme. The sound is solid with the right speaker. But any sound module or decoder may not sound good if the speaker is not correct.
