I purchased this unit strictly as an audio player due to the DVD audio and SACD capabilities, and after listening to it a few days I am very pleased. The unit is well constructed and feels very solid but not super heavy. I can't speak to the onboard DAC because I am using it as a transport to my Mytek Brooklyn DAC. The Denon unit has easy to use controls and a slick sliding drawer that operates easily. Load times are a tad long but that is a minor complaint. For $100 that I paid it is hard to neat! 9/10 for my purposes.

If you have a chance to get the Denon DVD-2900, by all means do it. Weighing in around 17 pounds, this dvd/cd player delivers a superb picture and the sound quality is equally superb. It is very easy to set up, too. When it came out in 2003 or so, it retailed for $999; the Crutchfield review is still available online. The only drawback is there is no memory feature, meaning you can't program your favorite songs.

Yes, this is an old CD player but in a modern, high end audio system, it still sounds very good as a player or a transport. Nice that it plays SACD, DVD A etc.
