This book weaves an incredible tale of unimaginable horrors, yet it's believable. Koontz is a master of creative characters. You'll even understand the villian(s) as well as the heroes. This book is written focused around modern technology that both intrigues and horrifies the reader. It's full of action and thought provoking characters who will live in your head long after you fnish the book. Dark Rivers is truly Koontz at his best. I've read many of his books and enjoy his writing style, but this one is over the edge with suspence, bigger-than-life charactors and a story plot that twists and turns all the while it pulls you with it. Koontz uses inteligence, psychology and a strong sense of human nature to bring each character in full light. The ex-cop who turns hero (to save a young woman from certain death at the hands of governmnet officials) has a dark past that Koontz uses to pull in several other characters. Past, present and future meld together as each character's bizzare past resurfaces as a means of survival in a world that is wicked, filled with powerful people, and a government department that turns its head away from the evils needed to accomplish the end results. Koontz tells a couple love stories amidst serial killers. Two tales of love between the two heroes and the insane romance of the evildoers keeps the story fresh and crazy. Honest law inforcement is rendered powerless against the marriage of government and big money. For every ounce of goodness possessed by the heroes, two pounds of insanity and power chase them until the end of the story. It's hard to explain how cleverly Koontz entwines technology, sociopathology, love and hate, knowledge and power along with evil and insanity into a story of love and courage fueled by the human instinct to survive. Reading this book is an experience that will leave you thinnking about the plot for years.Read full review

My all-time most Favorite book. Not a quick read, but an in-depth read. I have this book in two hard covers and two soft covers, this is an excellent example of D.K's outstanding talent. It's so believable you'd think it was someone's personal journey in life. THIS BOOK SHOULD BE MADE INTO A MOVIE!!!
This book was great, one of his best. A page turner from beginning to end... although I really think that "Sole Survivor" and "False Memory" were his best books, and "Intensity" was by far the best movie adaptation from one of his books, this one also rates high up on my list. Recommended!
