Dallas is an honest reflection of the human ability to be self seeking, cold hearted & manipulative towards each other. Just take a look at modern day society, big business today. If there is any value to this program it would be 1. By the bad example the Ewings on Dallas portray, we should strive to be better people. 2. That money and power do not bring contentment to human lives. 3. Evil deeds reap a evil reward or consequence. The writers & producers of Dallas cover nearly every ugly human trait, greed, dishonesty, lust, adultery, lies, hate, substance abuse & addictions, & more its all there in Seasons 1 & 2. One oddity is the original house on Dallas in season 1 gets replaced with the more modern mansion we are all familiar with for the duration of the series. After each episode I feel fortunate that I was not raised in a family like the Ewings. To sum it up ....Dallas is good entertainment.Read full review
I always loved Dallas growing up and thought it would be neat to have the series on dvd. This way I could watch them at my convenience. The only problem I have with it is the way Warner Bros. packages their dvd's. When you try to remove a dvd you almost break it trying to extract it from its casing. I had hoped they would improve this. As far as the show J.R. is without a doubt one of the top five most memorable characters in television history. I also liked Bobby because he is everything J.R. isn't and you need that for a show to be successful. That way there is always one to root for and one to root against. I also loved their big family and would loved to have lived in a large family atmosphere myself.
Digger Barnes got the shaft from Jock then Jock’s son gave the shaft to Digger’s daughter, Shamela! I swear to god in the second episode they go to a disco and dance to a discofied version of the Dallas theme song. Btw even though the Broncos never should’ve even been in SuperBowl Xii They blew it in the first quarter versus staubach et al. This soap opera premiered almost 3 months after that Cowboy victory in 1978.

I remember well when Dallas first came on. I caught the first episode while channel surfing and was totally hooked after that! In the first episode, Bobby brings Pam home. They just got married without telling anyone. But there is a teeny little problem. Pam is the daughter of "Digger Barnes." At one time, Digger Barnes and Jock Ewing (Bobby's father) wildcatted for oil together. But somehow Jock wound up with all the fortune and Digger wound up a broke and broken man. And rightly or wrongly (probably rightly, at least in part) he blames the Ewings for his misfortunes. They, in turn, consider him little more than scum and blame him for his own mistakes. The bad blood is Hatfield and McCoy stuff. The Ewings (especially big brother JR), are prepared to destroy Digger's daughter and run her off in short order, but Pam proves to be no shrinking violet and does what virtually no one else ever could... takes on JR... with class... and steals our hearts. That's just the first episode. Besides being the first-ever prime-time "soap opera," Dallas was thoroughly entertaining, and the cast was brilliant. Nobody could ever replace JR... or Bobby... or Miss Ellie... or the original Jock. Sadly, the actor who played Jock passed away and had to be replaced. In the beginning, there were no cliffhangers. Every episode had an ending, though the overall plot was carried on. The cliffhangers would come later, forcing us to tune in week after week to see what was going to happen next. And who can forget the infamous season ending cliffhangers, like "Who shot JR?" Or "Dead" Bobby taking a shower. Dallas is one of the all-time great TV series.Read full review
