The belt is very stable and steady. For my knife making use it's saved me dozens of hours in just one weekend! It's even better than the higher end sanding belt at the forge I go to, for everything except heavy duty stock removal. Very good for shaping. There's 2 caveats: 1) Replacing the belt or the disk sander requires a screwdriver to remove all the safety plates. Fortunately they're not really necessary (at least not the ones on the belt, I haven't tried the disk yet), so if you leave them off it doesn't hurt anything. That said, the large plate in front of the belt sander does get in the way. There's a smaller one that isn't shown in the picture that also works and doesn't get in the way. 2) The platen is a bit oversized and has rounded edges. That's fine for flat surfaces but if you want to work on a corner or plunge that's a no-go. I've been told by several people that you can simply epoxy a metal plate to the platen to get nice right angles out of it and it works fine. I haven't tried yet but it's on my todo list. It is a bit loud, and of course throws dust all over, but that's what you'd expect from a belt sander. Overall, very happy with this purchase (with the caveats above). I expect to use it quite a lot.Read full review

Grinder works fine other than if you put a more aggressive belt on,let's say 36grit it doesn't fit in between the guard and the drive wheel, luckily I'm a welder so a little modification wasn't the end of the world and as I see the need for the guard a little more space between the drive wheel to accommodate more aggressive belt would have been appreciated

Price point for anything that fits 2" belts can't be beat as far as I have seen. It's not super powerful, but it gets the job done. I have one I've been using for 1 1/2 years and it's still going strong. Just got this new one today to use in another area. Nothing appears to have changed except the color of the body. New one was white and I don't care. My reason for not giving this item a 5 star review is the factory platen. I've had to add my own on top of the factory platen on both with a 2" piece of 1/4" steel so I can grind in the plunge lines because the factory platen is about 3 inches wide. If you won't be using it for knife making, this probably won't be an issue for you.

Purchased for knives. Like it so far, it's no 2x72 but I knew that going in, still far better than I expected. Tracks well and haven't had any issues with it bogging down. Added glass to the platen so never used the stock one bare. Will have to mod the guard to get the really low grit belts in there. It'll do a 60 grit barely, had to turn it by hand some to grind out the guard, a 36 grit ceramic won't fit without cutting the guard off around the drive wheel.

I've used this sander for a few hours so far. It tracks nicely and has sufficient power. Two "downs": 1) no port for vacuum for the belt (there is one for the disc. 2) the table has to be removed to change the belt. Overall so far it seems to be good for the money. I hope I can say that years from now.
