This Dan Crary album is an enormous disappointment, far below the standards of creativity, musicianship, and listenability set by his far superior earlier albums, especially "Dan Crary-Guitar," "Lady's Fancy," and even his debut album, "Bluegrass Guitar." "Renaissance" is a dreary affair, burdened by pretentiousness, slow and boring pieces and just plain lack of effort. It's like the living legend can't be bothered to dazzle any more. Dan is far too gifted a musician to settle for such a mediocre effort, but he did. It fails, bores, and disappoints on every level.
