Nothing special, does it's job.
As with all candles, to stick with the marked "40 hours" burn them no longer than 4 hours at a time. This candle's scent is pretty strong, even when unlit. After lighting it, it takes a good 20 minutes to an hour for the insects to leave my porch. As a health tip, pay attention to which direction the wind is blowing so you can have the best coverage if you're outside, to prevent the fumes blowing into your face. Adjust accordingly to wind changes. I typically have the fumes blowing 5-10 feet in front of me, or behind me and I never have issues with flying insects. Of course this product will not repel ground insects, so be aware of that if you're sitting ontop of grass. Sadly I have June Bugs right now so my candle is filled with several of them after each session.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Seems to work - with caveats
I put this to the test when we had a major mosquito attack while I was grilling at dusk. At that time I put this candle out and, the caveat is, also a couple of Off green mosquito coils. Therefore I cannot specifically attribute any repelling effects just to this. It at least is a nice outdoor candle for ambience. For a while the presence of these items seemed to have no effect on dispersing the ravenous swarm. I went inside for maybe 10 minutes and came out and they were now gone. Perhaps as expected as there were no human prey during that time. However, they did not come back within the next hour I was sitting outside. So I suspect these are needed to prevent mosquitoes coming in the first place. If they are already there, it might not drive them away. Another night I put the same items out for a few minutes prior to remaining outside. I did not have any significant mosquito issues in several hours.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New
