If you do not mind the extra weight, I recommend the next size larger.

not having the lower speed range is causing the torque to be to low for cut off and larger diameters in metals. lacking instructions for threading. The supplied base did not have the holes aligned properly, and then the supports were to close together resulting in a dangerous unstable support. That had to be modified. It was typical chinese stuff that needed cleaning, filing sharp edges and correcting irritating mistakes. I am able to get good parts off the machine.

You get what you pay for.

The lathe is okay for a $500 pc of equipment. If you’re looking for more industrial type lathe you’ll pay alot more. Good for small light cuts as advertised. It’s worth the money.

  • A lot of lathe for five hundred bucks

Box arrived undamaged and quick. Unpacking there's a few bolts loose in the box. A few came out of zip lock bag all the accessories were packed in. A couple had fallen out of the tool post. As expected it took a couple of hours to set it up and locktite the loose bolts. Really should have included some shims to set the tools the proper height. As others I'll replace with a quick change tool post. Setup and tested I was super happy with first cuts and pieces.

  • Decent wire stripper

Cheapest motorized stripper I could find. It does the job well, however, I have a lot of small stranded wire that it doesn’t work with very well. Tighten the cutter too much with stranded wire and you end up with a mess. Per the advice of others, I’ve started using baby powder to help the machine grip the wiring. Organize your wire of the same size, adjust your cutter and finish all of the similar wires before moving on. The cutter develops play in the height when you loosen it. I always start lightly and slowly tighten the cutter until I get it where I need it.

  • Work good on bigger wire

Works great on Heavy wire. I had to take the front and rear guards off the machine to make it work good. Do you have to hold the wire below center of the bottom roller so that it stays in the center of the v groove otherwise it likes to wander up the side and doesn’t cut it through. Made my $135 back in two hours

  • Tough enough for contractors

Good quality the only downfall is two things 1. It needs the same wire feeding hole portal for the wire to exit. The wire tends to roll off the blade 2. Need more variety of wire size plate holes, your competitor offers better variety at a higher price but at least I am not having to go fab my own plates to make up for what you did not ship with your wire stripper product. Time is money, my time to modify your product vs. your competitors higher priced product but does not require me to modify anything? You tell me

  • Works ok

The cutter wheel had to be centered on the drive wheel. And the drive wheel have no serations to grip the smaller wire. The switch mount was missing one screw I found it in the box and the other three screws were never tightened. The gear box is starting to make a clicking noise I have no idear how to check the oil level ? Other than that after making what adjustments it needed it seems to work ok except the gear box I would like to check the oil level ?

  • First rate !

I've been using a hf mini 7×12 lathe for the last 8 years finally it "gave up the ghost " tried fixing it with replacement parts , but came to the realization that time lost is money lost ...so I decided either pay $600 plus tax for another hf ...oh by the way the 20-25 % off coupons at hf no longer cover central machinery lathes so you'll be covering the whole cost Took a chance on this for $429 shipped , free shipping ....came well packed with a inner and outer set of jaws....the lathe is bigger than a hf I'm guessing I might be able to fit almost a 16 inch item.in the chuck , be forwarned the center is not a free floating center and you'll need to pick one of those up if your turning some wood on it All in all I am very happy , and might buy a second one sold as a backup ..they look to come from the same exact factory as the harbour frieght lathe all the tooling looks the same ...of this lathe was commercially available I woulnt.be afraid to pay $800-1000 for it it's that nice

  • Great purchase

Great job on larger wire. Not do good on #8 or smaller. Even on #6 the wire rolls out of cutter. But yes worth it on #6 and larger. Pays for itself in one use.
