This camera is said to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Contax. It is named S2 because they want to commemorate Contax S, the first SLR designed by Contax in the world. They built such a camera which is almost pure mechanical except for its built-in TTL light meter. The lens system is Contax/Yashica bayont compatible lens group. There's no moter drive to forward film. The oeration is done by a traditional lever on the right shoulder of the camera. This makes the camera totally work even there's no battery at all. Thus you have to use an external light meter or SUN 16 rule for exposure settings. The cover of the camera body is said to be budge from Italy which makes the feeling soft and comfortable, but also easily broken. The ISO, shutter speed is set by the body and the aperture is set by the lens. There's also a lock around the shutter button so you could not shoot by mistake. There's also a self timer at the front of the body for selfie. Multi-exposure can also be done by a small lever. It's totally great and you deserve one either for film photography or for collection.Read full review

I love this camera because I use it, it is reliable and it looks sexy. But a couple reasonable (je pense) complaints: - LIGHT METER INDICATOR is confusing. It's easy to forget what all the blinking is about: there is too much information to look at, and this inevitably slows down the work flow; I think a simple -o+ indicator would have sufficed. There can be up to 3 different numbers glowing or blinking at a time! - SHUTTER SPEED KNOB is too stiff. Often I need to use my index finger and thumb to change it (vs. just index finger for Leica shutter speed adjustment...) Also it is cramped up behind the shutter release which exacerbates this issue. Again, work flow suffers. In the end, I wanted a reliable camera with good finish--the possibility of using it fully manually (post-apocalypse), and one that could hold my priceless 85mm 1.4 planar lens. For how it fits the lens alone, I will not soon be parting with this body, all gripes considered.Read full review

This camera was a retro design even back when it was introduced. It is basically a manual camera with a built-in meter. If the batteries die, the camera will function. Beautifully made and takes lenses among the finest ever made for 35mm.
