My family is trying to cut down on our food budget which is difficult because we like to eat delicious, gourmet meals. After purchasing this book from my child's Scholastic book fair on a whim, I have found this book to be invaluable for healthy, inexpensive, and easy meals. This book uses real food and fresh basics to cook up healthy meals without a lot of prepared ingredients. A suggestion to the new reader: do not prepare the ingredients before cooking, unless instructed to do so. I have found that the way these authors have written this cookbook takes you through each perfectly-timed step so that you truly have a meal completed, start to finish, in the time allotted. Extra prep only makes it take longer! We have enjoyed so many delicious recipes from Mu-Shu-Pork to Curried Chicken With Spinach and Tomatoes (you HAVE to try that one. It's delicious!), and siple twists on traditional menu items like Tuna With Shells and Dijon Cream, or, gosh! anything! We, as a family, have decided to rate the recipes in the book and have found that the majority get 4 1/2 to 5 stars. My kids eat the food, my mother-in-law even likes it, and I can easily find a recipe for a church social event. we have developed a great menu-plan for our family that has never happened before, and other recipes seem unneccesarily pricey and complicated. I am now getting them for family and friends as gifts and continuing this phenomenon. BUy it and enjoy it! CheersRead full review
I have a confession...I am a cookbook junkie. I can't even tell you how many I have. I built a special shelving unit for my cookbooks only to find out it'll only fit about half of my cookbooks. Here's the thing...I have read this cookbook cover to cover. This is one of the most USEFUL cookbook I have on my shelves (right up there with the red and white ones...betty crocker or better homes). It takes real life into consideration. These ladies give helpful advice that any cook (from the novice to the experienced) can use. With skyrocketing grocery bills this book can lead you through your supermarket aisles with ease and comfort without sacrificing style and grace or excitement and adventure. Pick up this book and imagine a nice candle lit dinner for two or supersize a recipe for a dinner party to suit the masses. All while loving your pocketbook!Read full review
This is one of the most usable cookbooks you will ever own. It has over 200 recipes to choose from. The recipes call for everyday ingredients that are easy to find. The recipes I have already tried are just what the title says they are: cheap, fast, & good. I had already used this cookbook before I bought my own copy of it. I checked this book out at the local library and loved it from the start. After trying several of the recipes, I began searching for my own copy here on eBay. Now that I have my own copy, it will become the cookbook I use the most.
I was skeptical about buying this cookbook. My family is full of extra picky eaters due to food allergies and other health concerns. But I'm finding that the suggestions for food preparation & planning can be adapted to my family's meal plans even if I don't use the recipes in this cookbook.
This is a great cookbook with good recipes and they are easy to follow and many different types.
