I am new to the planted aquarium hobby. I went plastic or silk previously. After a few weeks of research I decided to take the plunge and go with living plants. My research all pointed to the substrate as being one of the keys to success in this and CaribSea Eco-Complete was highly recommended by my LFS. I would have purchased from them but found this to be cheaper (and despite what my wife may say I do count my pennies) so I went this route instead. The product arrived in just a few days and was very easy to use. No rinsing, just open and pour... gently. Once the bottom of my tank was covered (one full bag and a partial 2nd bag looked right to me for my 20 gallon tall tank) I leveled the substrate at an angle going 3/4" in front to 2" in back. I added my drift wood, rocks and then planted several "beginner" plants and filled the tank about 2/3 full (I should point out that this was a previously established tank). I let the filter system work for an hour or so and then re-introduced my fish (2 medium Angelfish, 2 Blue Gouramis, 4 cory cats and 6 Harlequin Rasbora. After 5 weeks my plants are thriving and I lost only one fish (1 of the Harlequin Rasbora). My fish seem very happy with the change and the aquarium as gone from being lost in a corner of my house to being quite an attractive addition. I have kept track of chemical balances in the tank and noticed very little variation through all of this. I highly recommend this product and encourage others to try planted aquariums. I know I'll never go any other route now.Read full review

I put two bags of this in my 20 gallon tank and within 2 days my fish stopped eating and within 5 days the 22 guppies were all dead. I did a water change(50) and had the water tested at PetSmart and it showed that the Ammonia/Nitrate/Nitrite/Hardness/PH and Alkalinity levels were fine. I bought 8 more guppies and they also stopped eattng and died within 5 days. I keep the tank well filtered with a canister filter and the heater is an inline one set to 77 degrees. Before I added this product all was well and I had a very happy fish community that had produced many little babies. Now I have to take this junk out. It had to be this that killed off all my fish!

There are many aquarium plant substrates available, but very few if any have positive results. Cari Sea Eco Complete Planted Black Aquarium Substrate has always helped my aquariums grow beautiful lush plants of many different types. Also, no water quality issues. Would I recommend it, Yes! MWV

This is FANTASTIC! Best gravel that I have used. The live plants in this tank are doing FAR better than any of my other tanks. Definitely recommend! I only wish i had purchased 2 bags to start. I put 20lbs in a 29 gallon tank. Wish i had the extra depth for the plants. I will use again in my next tank.

If you buy this same exact substrate at a pet store itโs $25-$35 so buying this item saves you a good amount of money for the same great quality substrate. It also arrived literally 2 days after I ordered it and being free shipping I for sure did not expect that. Much appreciate. ๐๐ผ
