I've been using this printer for over a month now, not every day, but several times a week at several pages each time. We havent quite used up the first full paper tray(it holds about 250 sheets), and my wife(a school teacher) has printed a lot on other miscelaneous sizes of paper as well. Overall, the print quality is very good on plain paper, I havent yet done any photo printing on photo paper. The copy feature works fine, but it isn't the same quality as a dedicated copier - no surprise there, it is an inkjet after all. The machine has a lot of bells and whistles( many of which I haven't used yet), but the ones I have used all work as advertised. We all especially like the wireless aspect, initial set-up and connection went smoothly and took maybe 45 minutes to an hour for three computers, and the onscreen interface is pretty intuitive and easy to use, but unneccesary for most operations like copying, faxing and even some printing operations. I like the individual ink cartridges and havent noticed a particularly heavy ink use (havent had to replace any yet). It has a fairly large footprint, but it looks nice and because of the wireless aspect, it can go almost anywhere with an outlet. On the downside, it is pretty slow to start printing - at least wirelessly, though I haven't tried it directly connected, so I don't know if there is a difference there. Once it gets going, it isn't noticeably slower than any other printer I've had (though they were all lower end machines), but definately slower than a pro grade model. It isn't particularly loud, but you certainly know its working - I don't do much secret printing anyway, and don't know anyone that does so I'm not sure why this would be much of an issue unless you keep it in the crib with your sleeping baby (and in that case you have other issues). One other complaint is that the paper tray seems a little flimsy - both its construction and in the way it inserts into the bottom of the machine - but it hasn't broken or been a problem, it just feels like it might be one day so maybe it isn't really a fair complaint, it just doesn't feel like the same higher quality as the rest of the unit. I would recommeend this machine at this price point. It may be a little slow at first, but, like the tortoise, it makes it up in the long run.Read full review
Replacement for an older 3in1 that stopped working. This seemed to be the best 4in1 replacement for the price and the ability to buy or refill ink economically. Easy to setup wireless. Just need your password for a secure network. Appears well made. Looks good. Only negative is the time it takes to accept the commands from the computer before it prints. For home use with limited amount of printing, it is a good buy because of all the features especially the printing options including automatic duplex printing.
I have two of these Cannon MX870 printers. I purchased this third one for my Grandchildren. I love this printer because it is such a workhorse, produces excellent quality copy and prints, and is easy and intuitive to use. I cannot comment on how it works on Windows PC's but teamed with a Mac it is awesome. I also appreciate you can find print cartridges and print heads on e-bay at excellent prices.

I've had a printer like this since 2010 and NEVER had a problem in all these years. When it did die on me, I tried to find someone to repair it and Nobody repairs printers and the new ones are cheaply made. So, I decided to buy a refurbished one like I had and so far I've had no problems. I'm still keeping my other one just in case I find someone to repair it. Canon did a great job when they made this MX870.

I have been using this printer since 2010 and it has served me well. I replaced the print head a couple times; about $25 on EBay. Pros- prints fast, prints on just about everything, ink is cheap, rear cassette paper trays, easy to set up. faxes, copies, scans and prints. It is better than the new printers now sold in the stores. cons- the print head lasts about five years before replacement This was one of the best cannon printers ever made, this is why people pay a premium. I liked it so much I got another one to replace this one.
