The 218S gives very good performance with Walthers/Shinohara code 83 turnouts, having plenty of travel. The spring loading makes it easy to install and align, and keeps the turnout point-rails snug against the stock rails so the wheel flanges don't "pick" the points. I purchased these instead of the 202S as to my eye the 218S is closer to appropriate size for HO than the 202. My friend uses the 202S for his O-scale layout and the 202 is a bit large even there.

Caboose industries ground throws are a good choice for hands on operation of the turnouts on my layout. I prefer to use them wherever my turnouts are reachable. The spry tree of end adaptors include one for the Peco units I use. Although there is an adaptor for Atlas turnouts, I don't use it because the 218's throw is not enough to close the points on them. Instead, I use the 208s. It is larger but has a longer traveling throw to close the points on the Atlas. These ground throws are an excellent way to control the turnouts and feel involved with the switching operations.

I use these everywhere they can reached on my large layout, have about 30 installed. These are smaller and more to scale than the standard HO version.

These throws with multiple heads are very versatile. Please read the instructions. Doing so saves a lot of foul language.
