Dudley Moore is a man on the edge. His wife has left him and he just can't seem to work. He is an advertising executive and is tired of lying. He just wants to tell the truth. For this, everybody thinks that he has gone crazy, and his employer has had him committed. While in an asylum, his ads, the really crazy ones, accidentally get printed. Everyone is horrified at what these ads say, but in a total surprise, they are a big hit and all of the advertisers love them. Now, riding on the great success of these ads, everybody wants the truth. But Dudley has met another friend in the asylum, Daryl Hannah, and is intrigued. He doesn't want to leave now. Instead, the crazies inside are now writing ads too. Its all so crazy that it's beginning to sound normal. This is a funny movie, and has some real laughs. You'll enjoy this one.Read full review
I had forgotten how funny this one is. Having spent the better part of my career working with Volvos, I always appreaceated the line, "They're boxy, but they're good!" Grateful to have an opportunity to own the movie and see it again. It is classic, make you snort your drink out of your nose, Dudly Moore.

Ever since a buddy of mine turned me on to this movie, I've paid SO much more attention to TV & print ads... beyond the silliness ("Hello, hello, hellooooo..."), there's a great subtext about what we "expect" to see, and how we treat each other. I love this movie, it hit me right on the funny bone... but its cartoon-like treatment of the characters (even Darryl Hannah's) earned all of the 4 out of 5 I gave it. OK, so it's a late 80s madcap thing, but that's my only complaint. The best part: the Sony ad at the end!
