Well for 1 month usage - it's ok - I've got used to it... Review - right. SIze - fair - most people think it's big - I don't mind Display - excellent - 4 settings of brightness - Bright, dim, Dimmer, off Sound - Excellent - too annoying sometimes - yet you have volume control. Sensitivity - it can sense a mosquito from a 3 mile radius if it was emitting X band probably :) Unfortunately that's tricky, because petrol stations have their own cameras with K waves here - this totally freaks out when passing or entering a petrol station. Reliability - unknown - even though it has detected 2 officers so far and spared me a $300 ticket in one of the cases (practically paid for itself), it's reliability is questionable. It sometimes detects X-band in the MIDDLE OF NOWHERE - where I have no cell phone reception and no street lighting - must be a radar on batteries. It's even stranger when it detects X- band when you are standing still again in the middle of nowhere - I guess there are emitters somewhere - too sensitive. Taking that at hand - sometimes I am just passing by police cars and this gadget never says a word... Guess they've had their radar off - haven't been stopped so far - I've even passed through a patroll with 70 miles above the permitted speed - no reaction... (I would rather say fair on this criteria - but no sufficient info) Stance - it is really easy to mount or dismount, just hold a button and pull - easy to pick up - Excellent. Overall - just because it detected the police officers in a 3 mile radius when I was with 100 mile/hour speed, it saved me sufficient funds from the purchase. Advice - if you like to drive your car a bit faster sometimes - get this device - will save you money and your license probably. If you go by the rules - if you value your life - you'd know that speed restrictions are not placed for fun - there is a reason for that - drive by the rules. Anyway - I feel a bit more confident with it on the road - it's my laser eye friend sitting next to me... Enjoy 4/5 stars from me - I hope I was helpfulRead full review
I really like this radar detector. It has a color display screen instead of the normal light up icons for an alert like other radar detectors do. I bought this one to replace an older radar detector. my cousin had this xrs 999 which is similar to the xrs 9950. whenever we drove side by side going somewhere he would later tell me his radar went off like 5 times and mine went off 0 times. so i bought this xrs 9950 based off his and this radar is a thousand times better than my old one. i like the display screen when an alert goes off and i like how it has a digital compass on it as well. its a very good investment and one of cobras newer radar detecros. all their new ones have a color screen now and this xrs 9950 is defidently a good choice
I've always been a Cobra radar detector fan. I've being buying their detectors for the last 20years. This particular model has great features. I love the new color screen. I've had people get into my car asking "what is that"? Not knowing that it was a radar detector. I especially like the feature where it tells you the voltage of your battery. Funny when I first bought it I thought something was wrong with for a while cause I wasn't hearing any alerts. But it works and works very well compared to my last model I purchased a year and a half ago. I ended up handing it down to a friend. The only dislike, but no deal breaker is the size didn't seem to reduce any compared to my last model. But all in all this is a great detector for the price. I'm a gadget freak so I believe in replacing technology no longer than every couple of years. Best advise I can give is to research, look up product reviews and compare pricing. I do it on everything I buy especially electronics. Revised review...A year and a half after purchased and suddenly the sound goes out. I can no longer hear any of the alerts therefore i'm having to constantly look at the display screen which i've had a couple close calls at getting stopped because I didn't look at the screen fast enough before passing a cop!!! I don't know if this is a design defect or a simple short in the cord.Read full review
I the XRS 9950 was pretty easy to set up. The only flaws I see with it is that the volume doesn't quiet itself quite as easly at my old one did when it hit a signal. Also the detector's voice is a bit annoying. Maybe I just liked that it was a womans voice before and now its a male voice. Other than that it seems to work great. It's saved me already a couple times, and the screen on this one is easier to see than the last one I had. Even in the sunlight the digital screen is visable. All around it seems to be a good solid detector. Any questions email me Ironhyde@hotmail.com Wes
To sum this detector up in the quickest manner...it is a very nice designed detector, with the functions and capabilities comparative to many of the pricier detectors. The screen is great, very different than most, and the compass function is also a plus. As far as accuracy, which is really what we all care about, I believe it is quite accurate. The x-band function goes off a lot in busy areas, but mist detectors do. And mind you there is the option to select which bands you want to pick up. Worth the money, and if you are looking for soemthing in the 100-250 range, get this!
