I am pleased with this purchase. I rated it a 5 because it works well for my intended purpose. I bought it to cut holes in and engrave aluminum electronic rack panels. I found the instructions that came with it for the included software was hard to understand. So I bought Mach3 and Cambam. Mach3 runs the G-code and Cambam creates the G-code. Both are easy to setup and intuitive to use. I can create patterns in Cambam or I can import dxf files. I have successfully done both. So far I have machined a test file that created a pocket, shaft through hole, and 4 mounting holes for a stepper motor. I engraved my company name and logo on a panel. I created the text in Cambam and I imported a dxf file defining the logo. The most recent thing I did was to drill four 0.040" (1 mm) holes 0.125" deep in a small brass box. I use the holes as a starter for drilling 0.094" holes. This way I was able to accurately locate the holes. I just bought an ER11 collet set so I can drill the holes directly next time. I was concerned about breaking the tiny drill bit, but I proceeded cautiously with high rpm and low feed rates. I also used a drop of Tap Magic as a lubricant for each hole. What I need now is an accurate square corner that I can bolt to the T-slots to establish a zero point for my parts, which always have square corners. I found that 1/4" square nuts from my local hardware stores specialty selection fit nicely. I also bought some clamps to hold the parts. They haven't arrived yet, so I made do with mending plates and angle brackets. This isn't a very good solution because the holes are staggered. I found the best way to set z=0 was to loosen the tool and let it sit on the part while I tightened the collet. To test a file I move z up a known distance and reset z=0. After I prove the file I move z down the same distance and reset 0. My wife is already thing up things I can do for her. The seller I bought from has been very responsive and helpful.Read full review

These CNC machines are very affordable but plan on buying a legitimate Controller Board and software from Planet CNC. This will cost an additional $300, but it is well worth it. All of these CNC machines come with an unusable old copy of the Planet CNC software.

This thing is sturdy! When I opened the box and saw the layers of parts, I was terrified that it would feel flimsy and be difficult to install. I took my time and it feels like a much more expensive piece of equipment. There are plenty of CNC3040 options out there, but MACH3 seems to have great quality control and really cares about customer experience. I think my only suggestion would be to include a couple extra pieces of assembly hardware (bolts, T-nuts, etc) just in case anything is damaged or missing, but I had everything I needed for a good assembly.

works as described, seems to be a fairly stable machine for what it is.
