Good product but took a little longer to set up than expected. You would think something with 3 parts would be easy to figure out. I couldn’t get it to clamp onto my 0.50 chain enough to hold it in place but after 5 minutes or so I got it. i had to add another washer to each handle for smoother leverage

The clamp is a substantial tool.

  • Very Limited

This is a mediocre product with real benefits for people who sharpen lots of chains. Otherwise, Chainmeister's products are more reliable and easier to use and can use your own chain bar. It's also unnecessarily clunky, and the chain clamps don't hold reliably. A serious limitation is that chains of 12" or less can't fit the bar. You will be better off just sharpening them on the chain saw. Only buy if you lots of chains and have 14" bars and longer. With a little thought way better materials can be used, a better design can be thought of, and lighter more practical methods can be incorporated (ex.: aluminum rails) and better clamps (ex. from cycling, which are more reliable and way better designed).

  • A great item, but...

This is not for 12" blades. It is too long. I use my 12" electric for hard-to-reach, close to ground work where accidental contact with the dirt just happens. That means I am sharpening that chain frequently. A shorter holder would be handy. (My 16" gas powered saw is not suitable for all situations.) Otherwise, I consider it a "must have".

  • Not well designed.

This vise actually clamps on the bar, not on the chain. Unless you put an extreme amount of force on the clamps, the chain still flops around in the bar. The clamps and clamp handles are just not beefy enough to trust with enough force to get the job done. Also, the two clamps only pinch the bar right above the clamps, not all along the bar. As a machinist, I can re engineer this to work, but it will be beyond the ability of the average guy/gal to make this vise function correctly. Quite disappointing.

  • over all the filing vise work good

it will not tighten thechainsaw chain when in fileing grove but i fix that by putting washers on bolts

  • More effective way to sharpen your chains.

Reduces wear on main bar by not leaving fine steel particles in the bar grove.
