The device provides quick recovery from both horizontal and vertical shocks through its Skip-Free G-Protection, making it useful for taking out on long runs or wearing while biking. Even large disturbances won't interfere with your favorite songs or cause the CD to skip. This is because part of the song is already buffered into the CD player's system and ready to play at all times.This portable Sony CD player also features eight different playback modes. Set the device to repeat your favorite song over and over, assemble a playlist that plays your music in a single order, or put the mix on random and play your songs completely out of order. With the bookmark playback function, you are able to easily program the device to remember your favorite songs or play your favorite mix at the touch of a button. The device's LCD display shows the track number, the battery indicator, and other pertinent information. It also features an automatic shut-off system for further convenience.This Walkman device has multiple features that enhance your audio experience. The mega bass sound system uses digital processing technology to give you an excellent sound. The result has deep, rich bass tones and low harmonic distortion. The two-position automatic volume limiter system (AVLS) keeps output volume levels steady for cleaner overall audio quality. Adjust the volume levels as precisely as you want, with the volume level appearing on the LCD display. The device has an audible range between 20 Hz and 20,000 Hz with a variation of no more than positive 1 dB to -2 dB. Consistency is the watchword thanks to this low variation. It also features a 1-bit digital-to-analog converter for turning the CD's digital data stream into an analog audio signal.This Sony Walkman device supports both CD-R and CD-RW discs that are burned directly from your computer or home recording deck. Create all kinds of custom mixes from your music files and CD collection, then decide how you want it to be played. This device requires two AA batteries to run, giving up to 16 hours of battery life with the G-Protection on and even longer with it off. It has two different outputs: one for the stereo headphone jack and the other for a 4.5-volt DC adapter. The original release version of the Sony D-EJ011 CD player comes with a clip style headphone. It is compatible with a number of other accessories, including power adapters, cassette adapters, and audio connecting cords.     Probably as good as portable cd players get.

    This is the second one of this model that I've bought The first one, bought new in 2005, is just plane worn out. What I like is that it is very efficient on battery use - I also have other brands that go through batteries very quickly, 4 to 6 hours but in this one they last 18 to 24 hours. Plus the sound quality is great and I can't complain about the quality. It has very good bump protection, I've never had it skip when bumped. I give it 4 stars because the design isn't really that good. The battery compartment is inside the case under the disc itself (you have to remove the cd to change batteries). This wouldn't be that big of a deal to me but the batt. cover is in an awkward place and it's difficult for me even with small fingers to get the damn things out - I've always been irritated ...

    My most favorite walkman

    This was and always will be my favorite walkman. I owned a silver one but it scratched overtime and read 'No disc error'. I have no idea why...But this little device is great to listen to Cds with. The sound quality is amazing omg. Im so happy to have a black one now. The only cons are it gets scratches, uses alot of AA batteries. Otherwise the best walkman ever.

    Discontinued

    Bought this used because Sony no longer makes it. I listen to audio books from the library and wore out or broke lots of these players. All the other brands are lousy. This is the only one that starts where you left off if you turn it off or the battery dies. I paid $30 incl shipping. Can't imagine I'd ever pay more than that for this product.

    Superior to all other CD Players

    Great sound. Sturdy construction.Holds the last place the CD was stopped so you don't have to try to find where you were when you stopped the audio CD book last. Other brands don't do this. This device does not run down batteries as fast as other makes. Batteries last 3 times longer. I have had this model in the past and other makes just don't live up to this Sony product. I was so disappointed when Sony stopped making it. I looked all over for one for the past several years. So happy to fine this one on EBAY.

    Good Basic CD Portable Player with a few quirks

    I like everything about this unit... ALMOST. It's light, sound is good, the anti-skip is pretty reliable. BUT: getting batteries out for replacement is always a bit of a pain, due to where the battery compartment is... right under the hinge where the unit opens and closes. Annoying, to say the least. Also it doesn't like CD's that have even minor blemishes... so sometimes it just jams. But largely it's a good, reliable little thing. Probably the best for its price.
