Classic horror as only the Brits could offer. Great buildup as a English teacher's world starts to unravel when he debunks his wife's belief in witchcraft practice. This early 60's Film is up there in the occult vein "horror hotel"(city of the dead) & "night of the demon" To add to creepy going ons is a pre-credit 'voice over' which as a promotional gimmick meant to disburse any spells cast over any believing soul in the audience (done by that master of articulation the late Mr. Paul Frees) which by itself makes disc this must have.

Really well done, suspenseful, well acted and well directed thriller. Janet Blair is still gorgeous in her 40s. Nice to see her in a meaty role. Nice to see her in ANY role! But she is quite good in this. So is Peter Wyngarde, who plays her professor husband. There is an American version of this novel, with Lon Chaney Jr., called Weird Woman. Chaney tries to ruin it with his clueless acting, but the supporting cast keeps the picture afloat. But the Blair/Wyngarde version is the superior product, by far. For years it was only available in Region 2. Rejoice now that you can get it for all dvd players.
