Makes the best coffee, hands down. No bitterness, smooth, consistent strength, no oily residues. Model has been discontinued, thus only 4 stars instead of 5.

I've had it about 2 weeks now. 1. It shuts off prematurely at times. I cleaned it very well with vinegar yesterday according to the instructions and this morning it shut off early after the 2nd pot brewed. I don't think it shuts off before it brews but it certainly isn't staying on the whole 2 hours it is supposed to. I just push the brew button again and it seems to stay on at that point. 2. Not sure it really gets as hot as it says because there is a fine powdery kind of residual (not a sooty type deposit) that I see near the bottom of the cup in the coffee as if it didn't dissolve all the way or something.. 3. The carafe doesn't pour neatly, you have to be REAL careful or there will be many drips when you lean it back after pouring. Requires a little juggling and a lot of attention. We just keep a paper towel around for those drips. I am not sure if this was totally brand new, it seemed like it should be and showed no trace of previous use. Since the carafe came broke to bits due to poor packing, I can't swear that the replacement they sent is what comes with it but it seems to fit everything perfectly. We'll try it a while more and either get used to it or write off the (?) 60-80 dollars we paid and get something else.Read full review

Like most, my biggest complaint is the size. Their cups are even smaller than my previous coffee maker (5 oz perhaps?). It takes about 12 cups in this maker to = 10 in my old maker. I would rather have dealt with a taller unit if that is what it takes. So, in a regular workday I have to brew twice, but then I knew that going in. HOWEVER it is the the ONLY home coffee maker I have used, in decades, that actually makes a HOT cup of coffee! A huge thing if you add cream to your coffee. It is also good coffee. Like many, I have tried unsuccessfully to find a coffee maker that isn't constantly putting hot water in contact with cheap plastic. This may be about as good as you can get right now in an affordable model. The water is heated in silicon tubes (as per Bunn), and the filter cup is all stainless...so at least the contact between hot water & plastic is minimized somewhat (the tank is still plastic). I think, if they made the tank & sprayhead stainless, too, a lot of people would happily pay another $50 for this unit, especially if they enlarged capacity, too. The accidental plus with this unit was, knowing I would need to brew twice, I picked up a Mr Coffee stainless thermal unit (just because it was the best buy on Ebay). Because of the open design here, I can actually set the thermal carafe (after filter cup is removed) right on this burner to keep warm longer. It fits perfect. Otherwise, the design is pretty simple. The timer works fine which was also a requirement in my house, and it doesn't use up electricity keeping water hot all day like the Velocity unit. Bunn, if you are reading this, you could sell a million units if you would marry the best qualities between the Velocity and this unit. I am quite pleased with this so far.Read full review
I bought one of these a few years back for a friend. Makes fantastic coffee, but you have to wait for the whole brew cycle to finish before you can get a cup, so 10-15 minutes. Maybe because of that, maybe because some of the early models supposedly had the heating element fail, Bunn stopped making the Phase Brew, and pushed the Velocity Brew instead. Not sure if the Velocity matches the Phase, but if you're willing to put up with the couple quirks and Phase makes fantastic coffee, as good as pouring into a cone filter.

After 7 good brews, it quit heating and brewing. I have done troubleshooting with Bunn, but we cannot get it to heat up.
