Current slide {CURRENT_SLIDE} of {TOTAL_SLIDES}- Best Selling in Home Theater Systems
I really like this product so far. I bought the Phillips home theatre system w/ 5.1 surround sound because it was on sale, and it had free shipping. I have have had for a few weeks now and LOVE the sound! It's awesome. I love watching TV, Movies, and playing Videogames with it. It makes the whole experience so much better. It also came with a DVD player, which makes it convenient, which also allows you to play music, CD's. Either way you use it, it is way better than your original stock system. This has everything; 5 channel surround sound, and a subwoofer. A great product at a great price. Some of the things that I did not like as much was the cable length on the speakers. It would have been nicer if the side speakers, especially the rear, had more maneuverability and area you could put them in the corner with. I do not have a huge room with my TV in it, but the cables are still stretched and barely make the distance. It would just make things a bit easier if there was more cable to work with, but they do give you a substantial amount anyhow. The other thing that made things a little more difficult was the fact that this kit did not come with a manual. I got the receipt from ebay, but not manual or diagram that explained how to set it up. I was able to get everything hooked up and working, but I have had some previous sound system and speaker knowledge, and I can usually figure things out. It was not an impossible task or an extremely difficult, but for an average Joe, I think it would have been challenging to get installed. Also if your current system/setup was already complicated, it might be difficult to install yourself. Overall, a great product, great sound, and well worth the money. I did however get it at a great deal ($130, originally $300, and it was a scratch and dent product), but hey, it looks cool, and sounds better than anything in the house! I would recommend this to anyone interested in upgrading their Theater/television/gaming experience, or even for great music quality. Thanks for reading :)Read full review
Good sound quality? check Cheap price? check Would I buy a system like this again? probably not. Although the sound system was definitely worth the low price I bought it for, it has a lot of faults that aren't easily seen. Poor workmanship and design flaws would be up there in the top list of problems. The single HDMI out means that the system isn't going to be your one stop for all your consoles and tv needs and it doesn't always work to boot. Soon as I opened it up the disc tray was broken as well. Radio? probably gonna have to buy an antenna. But, in Philips defense, this system does its intended job well and that's just pumping sound and music with a variety of options for a relatively cheap price in comparison to the current market of home theater system. Course after a week's use I find the thing I want most now is just for the remote to have a volume control instead of always going all the way to the main system to turn the volume up or down.Read full review
I bought a broken unit on purpose. I don't know why eBay is asking me to write a review about a broken unit. Let's see... I plug it in and nothing happens :) I bought this one to fix an old one because I didn't want to spend $200 on a HTS. When working, however, it sounds great and the ipod dock is handy. Only problem is it likes to turn on when you turn on other units that are plugged into it (auto-detect feature).. meaning.. since I run my cable box into it (hdmi) and I turn on my cable box, then the system likes to turn on too. Also, if I push my comcast remote (page up) button, then it likes to turn on.. so keep the volume low to not scare the junk out of you when it mysteriously turns on. I haven't checked to see if you can disable that feature yet - Because I bought a broken unit and it's in the mail somewhere.Read full review
OK, I did a little bit of shopping, before I settled on this one, and I have to admit that the price was the reason I bought it... With that said... I bought this to have sound in our yard with a projector system in Tybee Island for PirateFest, 2010... We were going to be watching POTC and I wanted some decent sound... This system ROCKS! It had ample power for the average viewer... and it was MORE than enough to have us feeling like we were RIGHT THERE in the movie... I simply placed the speakers in the yard at the length of their respective wires, and we sat out there... literally surrounded by the sounds of the movie... There was volume to spare... it performed flawlessly... I DO notice that there is a smell to this system... not really like burned components, but a similar smell... so far it hasnt affected the performance... I intend to use it again at a camping trip this weekend.Read full review
Positives: 1. Color coded system makes setup a breeze 2. Excellent sound quality (The 1st time I turned the system on it was on volume level 7 and it was so loud that I had to turn it down) 3. "Supportive" customer service through Philips Negatives: 1. The speaker wires that are included are pretty short and it requires you go go out and buy more wires so that they can be placed in the proper places throughout the room (I live in a pretty small apartment and the wires were not near long enough) 2. This system can only be wired through the tv and so you are unable to have surround sound when just watching normal television or cable. 3. After multiple phone calls to Philips and 2 different systems, it was established that there is an "issue" with the remote frequency in this particular model. Anyone using a standard cable/satelite box (with the cable/satelite remote) will have problems with their system turning on. Anytime the cable/satelite box is turned on the system will also turn on, this wouldn't be a huge problem but because the system only works with its own components and not the cable/satelite box you constantly have to turn it off. In my particular case, this also happens when I press the number "0" (the customer service representatives told me that in some cases it is worse and happens with every button, so I am "lucky" that it doesn't happen with every button.) Sadly, there is no way to change the frequency of the remote so you are stuck with the problem forever. Customer service representatives did give me one "solution" to the problem, move your home theater system box away from the cable/satelite box (I was told that it would be best if I could just move the box from the room that my cable box was and that I shouldn't have anymore problems!) We all know that thats not always an option. I wouldn't recomend this model to anyone I know. As stated above, the sound quality is excellent but unfortunately the negatives highly outweight the positives. By spending a few extra dollars in the beginning you will be saving yourself money, time, and sanity in the long run.Read full review
